Finally got myself a tractor to spend some hours on probaly more in the workshop than in the fields Its a 1986 Ford 7710 with only 3600 hours on the clock. I would like it to end up like Roger Brooks 7710 that featured in classic tractor may 2006 issue but that might be beyound my skills.

Doesn't look much to do(y)

If you do want her painting
A pm an book her in;)

To be honest it has alot of origanlity as it is, once you paint it it loses that and it starts a new chapter.
I have in the past made an old rusty tractor look original by painting and rubbing down through the top coat down to primer coat so it gives it that used worn look ie on panels its takes abit of time though but looked nice.

As said pop windows out rust treat them areas a light dusting of areosol and dabb it down while its tacky to take the sharpness out of it it should blend in nice.
Any advice just ask (y)

Thanks. A bit supriced that a lot of you prefer to let it be like it is and "only" do the rust thing. The good thing about the tractor is Iits original look and its in a great mechanicly condition. Rust, bends in hood and some tired and missing cabfoam ser the negative. It should be said that I have no working plans for it

Do what is necessary and preserve as much you can ones you repaint the lot you have lost how it was
That tractor if kept in the dry will not deteriorate as fast it is 31 year old and not 5 years old with modern paint but that will be around in another 30 years and be able to be repaired

Its not that I dont like the Idea of leaving it the way it is and admidt that its 31 years old but there needs to be done something with the rust issues espcially in the cab. Pictures to follow

From the first pic, she looks good:cool:

But the close up pics show the rust. And as much as I like original, working clothes and all that, I think it needs painting, if only to preserve it. Yes it won't deteriorate as fast now, if kept in a shed, but does that mean it would never go out side, never turn a wheel in anger again, never be washed?

How about only doing the tin work? Take the cab off and give it a proper refurb. And the bonnet, grill etc. But leave the engine, gearbox, axles etc?

Original is nice, but if it's falling apart then who likes the look of that? :scratchhead:

Mind you, maybe I'm looking at it all wrong, I've got nothing like this unfortunately :(, I'd love a toy. Plenty of old stuff though, it's just got to go to work now n again:LOL:

There's an interesting Ford 6600 restoration thread on the Irish Farming forum. It's shocking the state of the tinwork under those window rubbers, even on a cab that looks rot free.

Looks like someone's had a go at painting it before anyway.......;)
