i recall seeing someone was making a straight disc to run in front of CO and sprinter tines ? anyone know who it was ? would be a good addition for even lower soil disturbance I think in the future

I made this https://thefarmingforum.co.uk/index.php?threads/straight-discs-on-horsch.46946/page-2#post-1586514

If your are drilling at shallow depth they don´t do much except is the previous crop has laid flat in. But when drilling cereals and beans, they reduce the disturbance a lot.
I run a 4 inch opener for sp barely and cereal rye and a 2 inch for wheat, so without the disc it wold be disturbing a lot.

next week would be too soon I'm afraid and I wouldn't want to take any money off anyone for them until I have proven to myself they work as well as I expect them to, my first set are still being cut and welded next week

By the end of April I will know for sure the design is right and exactly what they are costing so wouldn't want to promise anything until then which would give anyone interested plenty of time to get and fit them ready for autumn
Hi Clive , hope you are well and got through harvest unscathed !!!, you may recall our conversations back in the spring and I was wondering if you have got any further with your low disturbance points like the Metcalf ones , I want to replace my duets on the Co8 , any info appreciated of results, cost and availability ,cheers Mike

In light of this thread, I've had a look at a couple of these drills including this one. The asking price has come down, but it needs a lot doing to it. It's been outside a long time so most of the tyres want changing and the electrics are suspect. They may be open to offers, but if one fails to resurrect it as a working drill, it will be expensive at any price !

@Clive, did you make some fert tubes for the metcalfe points? If so, how we'll do they work and how much would a set cost?

yes we did - there are very simple (compared to the 750a ones) I will take some pictures for you when I get a chance

I still want to make my own coulter as there is a lot I think could be improved about the metcalf point, just ran out of time ti do it but will revisit at some point

Thanks

Trying to find a bit of stubble to go try it into for a bit of a test and iron out any issues before we need to use it in anger !

Always a good plan! Been there done that used to hate delivering machines that headed straight to the field off the lorry. A few days looking at them having a play always made things run more smoothly in the long run

What exactly did you do to improve the steering?

We have added an additional articulation between the seed cart and toolbar

It was fixed via a 2pt linkage arrangement which with wheels right at the back of the long machine meant it didn't follow the tractor well around corners, it was very hard to get down the road or through a gateway on reverse into a corner, I think this is why the UK supplied CO's had the smaller castor wheels on the seed cart vs this flotation tyres east German spec maybe ??

hopefully this sorts that, driver initial impressions yesterday were very good, followed well on the road and in a quick test in a grass paddock

Will it be okay any easier to reverse in to a corner like that? It's been well done.

its much easier from initial impressions, it was not easy with the steering drawbar and wheels right at the back of a long machine, really odd set up the european spec as standard, steering drawbar and seed cart wheels that were working against the fixed rear packer, not a great design really so I can see why the UK models had a different castor wheel arrangement

most importantly we can now get it through gateways and around traffic islands !

@Clive what are thoughts now on establishment with the co compared to the 750a? Has there been much difference?

It's a case of horses for courses really !

There are situations where the CO is better and others where the 750a is

Both pretty good though, no failures or poor crops at all

CO better for osr and cover crops into chopped wheat

750a better after break crops and into covers

But both flexible enough to do either job if capacity is required - we can stick 300ac a day in if required now

Have you used the fertilizer pipes, and do they work ok? Have just bought a CO4 with liquid fertilizer, and looking for low disturbance coulters with fert, but havent found any. is there really any other low disturbance coulters then metcalfe avaliable?

When I first saw your post I hoped you haven't brought the C04 that was on eBay last week because I'm 99% sure it's a scam, but then see your in Norway. Your not importing one are you?
