Hoping to see a 4m or 4.8 in the summer, not sure if no carrying wheels is a good thing, but much lighter i am sure!
Why min till first?

The Zip-Til has been put to the test this Spring, and so far it has provided some impressive results.
Videos to follow, but please do contact us for more information.

Drilling date 11th April 2013; spring wheat @ 185kg/ha. Drilled directly into over-wintered OSR stubble.

Advantages of Strip Til
  • Little moisture loss within the soil, due to minimum disturbance;
  • Even germination across the whole field, including the headlands;
  • Invaluable method, as we have had no rain since drilling.
The field was then rolled within 24 hours of drilling.

If it was drilled straight into OSR stubble where are all the stalks etc ? looks like it has been cultivated to me, hell of a wide row for spring wheat to fill out too

I expect the OSR stalks have been covered by the soil throw between the rows. My guess as similar to claydon. Agree it seems very wide rows.

How are all your spring drilled crops looking?

As you will appreciate product testing has been very limited due to the wet autumn/winter.

This spring on our farm the zip-til drill was fitted with a narrower coulter for lower disturbance at higher speeds.
The zip-til drill is purposely different to the pro-til drill, but retains the essential feature of inderpendent coulters each with a depth wheel for control of drilling depth.
I have as yet, not experienced any effect on yield from band width, in fact I believe the more the light interception the better the quality of plant health and grain quality.

Probably because of uneven drilling depth and it is more prone to blocking, of course you can race around the field a few times with a straw rake.

Martin,

Apologies for putting this blasphemous language in the dd section.

But has the zip-til been trialled in a min-til type situation?!
I'd be very interested in any results you have - I'm sure the drill would do as fantastic job in my system.

Pigtail after combine to get chit.
Subsoil.
Glyphosate.
Drill.

Thanks in advance for any feedback.

Just perfect, the Zip-Til has less soil movement than the trailed machines. Try to ensure at least a 3/4 week period for rehydration between subsoiling and drilling.
