I have 500 acres for grain near Perth, Its very robust and doesn't seem to look hungry like wheat or barley. Personally if I was getting going mid Feb I would just split 3 equal ways, if delayed to march I do it in 2 equal splits. But then I also try and have all N on all cereals before we get to potato planting etc, so finished by mid April. The rooting on rye means that it can capture the N quite well, just need to keep the tillers alive. Max N on the rye is 150kg/ha with 60 SO3. I use inhibitors and I can grow 10t/ha with that level of N on very light soils that would give 9 of wheat using 200kg.

Anyone thinking of putting 20-30 units N on soon starting with WB ? Crops don’t look at all hungry but if there was a weather gap I was going to probably ya ke it .. Weather has pretty dry and benign since beginning of the year ! March may not …

I'll be going for it on wb as soon as I get around to it and get a spreader sorted 🤦
Probably week after next.

Barley looks well around here at the Moment but when it wants to grow it wants to have fert there so it can.

Traveling down to essex last week there was some really yellow barley about but I guess that's because it's sitting In cold wet clay.

My Barely looks/is very forward as a result of mid September sown ! It’s going a shade yellow… Was going to give it 20-25 units urea just to keep it ticking over … my agronomist thinks CCC is more important.. however I may get to travel on frosted ground later in the week … CCC could wait…

It's pretty cold out at the moment, I'm not sure any CCC is going to work in the cold??

Poultry muck on all contract wheats and Barleys last week, just before the rain, hopefully it will release a bit of N and trace elements to keep it ticking over. OSR has been hammered by pigeons and will be looking for N to get it away soon.
