N fert timing dry spring

I am curious if anyone started applying N to wheat with the forecast of a dry spring?

Would struggle to be drier than last year and an early chunk end of feb and some a month later with a finish off late April seemed ok.

We’re just started to get going, bit early but the thinking is at least the crops will have had something in case it turns wet in a couple of weeks when we would usually start.

I usually go by the daffodils but when its as travelable as it im thinking a sprinkling will ease workload going forward .Plus as rainfall has been so low here any help to encourage rooting wont do any harm

The wheat down here in the SW has really woken up this week and pulling residual N from previous bean ground and barley is starting to look hungry, will go as soon as good to travel.

Well, half term looks damp so I'm putting some on on Friday while the winds calm and the going is good.

I am doing a backwards wheat field Friday before i take the kids to school as its supposed to get cold, rest looks ok i think at the moment.

Put a go of urea on now won't hurt as the plants won't see it for a while anyway.

I should temper this by saying I used to go on the state and condition of the crop. If it's green as green and angrier than a cyclist with a puncture, I'd probably delay it until at least March.

Same here, but only on the bit we left out two or three weeks ago.

wouldn’t dream of putting bagged n on now. Winter may still return

Direct drilled barley is looking very pale here. Getting 30 units today, I'm too mean to put on any more at current prices. Wild boar have been digging it up too.
