Just been doing the sheets for last application of fert to w and s barley. What rates of nitrogen are you applying to your cereal crops?

220kgsN/ha w wheat
200kgsN/ha w barley
125kgsN/ha s barley

Adjusted for any manure/slurry applied.

5yr average is 11t/ha at 12 percent protein. We make the decision late because a) digestate used and you've got to have a bit of a guess as to how it's going to work and b) my clay doesn't warm up very quickly so even early fert doesn't tend to show up until later. And I'm generally happy with a lower yield / higher protein to an extent. All urea so I'd like it on by the end of April. Just had t0, so give it a week to soak in and I'll look then. Maybe no more. Maybe 175kf more urea. Urea was cheap. Wheat is looking expensive. I'll push it as hard as the agronomist is happy to keep it stood up.

220 kg/ha WW
180 kg/ha W Barley
150 kg/ha Spring barley
220 kg/ha W OSR.

All kg/ha N spring doses. Feed crops only, no malting nor milling. Winter crop rates adjusted for canopy by a N Sensor on the fertiliser spinner. There is a discussion to be had about cutting the last dose on the wheat as that's all that's left to finish, only because of the continued lack of rain.

Milling W 250kg
WW 220kg/ha
WOats 140kg
Spring Barley 120kg

Has anyone applied last dose yet?
I'm starting tomorrow, spring barley first as fed up with waiting for rain and don't want to be in a mad rush.....!

Crops were given their second 70kg of N 3 and a half weeks ago, and there hasn't been a drop of rain to wash it in.

Another 70kg of liquid N+S siting on top of parched roots isn't going to improve the situation, I don't think I'm going to be a mad rush to do the final pass.

Who said anything about liquid, hate the stuff personally.

So far ww (group 1) 165kg, swheat (milling) 200kg, grass 100kg, triticale 150kg.

swheats done. ww will hit protein at that level if it stays dry because there won’t be any yield. grass will be silaged and then we’ll see if it’s worth applying again. Triticale is done.
