I understand that the AEA are to roll out the national spreader testing scheme soon and expect that sprayer testers will all also be doing spreaders. From this I assume that the nfu/red tractor organization will be forcing us to have our spreaders tested soon adding further to growers costs?

As if I haven't enough to do or pay for.

One of these days its going to be the straw that makes me pick up the phone and instruct to sell up. Its getting to the stage for us small farmers where it wont be worth the hassle. We have to do it all ourselves to keep costs down but all this overhead they are adding is not helpful is eating more and more into essential productive time.

Might get myself accredited for testing, seems a nice little earner. How long does it take to test a spreader FFS.
Reminds me years ago when we had an aga fitted, i said to the fitter when you give it a service will you show me how to do it so I can do it form then on? Said OK. When it came due for a service he came and showed me and said in all honesty the hardest thing about an aga service is dragging it out long enough to justify the cost, I usually take the vaporiser to my van and listen to the radio for half an hour! It's about £100 and takes all of 30 mins to do thoroughly, complete rip off as are all the bloody accs things.

Anyway, how are they going to set up my spreader for all the different sorts of stuff I spread. Yard is going to be a mess by the time they have finished. 24m disc machine. Whats wrong with setting up on the fly in the field? I look on the ground or chuck some hessian sacks down. Havent striped it yet.

The year we had really bad stripes was the year we had SCS come and relieve us of some money for a test.
It will only be as good as the one bag of fert, spread in the prevailing conditions, on the day it gets done.

had our spreader tested this spring, luckily it was paid for by fertilizer supplier, after about 5 minutes decided it was money for old rope and that I would buy some cat litter trays and do it myself, priced up tray testing kits at cereals £200 quid for some plastic trays and a funnel, god they must think we came down in the last shower

Just buys some trays from the garden centre and do it, it's not rocket science.

Another load of crap to pay for.

The sprayer I don't mind so much as there are some fairly nasty things go through it so I can agree with paying for that to be tested.

Also I normally get my fert as I need it so does that mean I have to keep a bag of each or keep some of last years that has no resemblance to next years.

And of course we will all do as we are told wont we! Any thoughts of a TFF rebellion , signing of a petition etc to present to THE AUTHORITIES!
surely we have been testing our spreaders for years as if they are wrong we loose yield/money.
