Does anyone have experience of Lennon spring oats ?

I'm looking at a few options for a spring break and have a contract offer that looks ok, just wondering how much of yield disadvantage they have compared to Canyon / Firth , and if there are any other advantages / disadvantages over husked Oats, they look comparable on the agronomics, but down on yield with a better specific weight.

Yield for naked would likely to be less than normal spring oats. Beware, they itch like hell and your grain plant and yard will be covered in white dust and watch your drier [if you have one] as this dust burns well !! Caught my Alvan Blanch on fire in 2012 !
I grew for 2 years but swapped to normal S Oats in 13, crap year price wise but better and easier margin than naked the 2 years previous.

Hi
We grow the oats and are quite pleased with them but......We need the break and they are grown on HLS land for spring cropping so have a head start money wise.

Some points I have noticed about Lennon
1/ slow to get away and dont like adversity in the weather.
2/ are as good as a spray of Atlantis at blackgrass control
3/they itch (as said)
4/ The straw itches
5/Any cultivation dust itches
6/We got £180 tonnes last year which buys a lot of talc!!!!!

PS fantastic feed for sheep and chickens the chinese have varieties in development that have oil percentage in the teens. Is that an oilseed?

Hi,
What sort of seed rate do you plant them at ?
What would you expect them to yield ?
How long is a piece of string ?

Plant at 100kg/ha tiny seed. Good yeild would be 5 t/ha

Does not seem a lot but other advantages for us is that you do not have the problem of bulk so handlng easier and on harvest movement so in and out v.quick.

If you have 10 t land forget them but have very low inputs. Usually we spray one blw and one gr/fung spray. We have bad blackgrass but they seem to take care of that themselves that with 50 unitsN (HLS) is not a lot so you dont need a lot to make a living.
