nasty eye

Two day old lamb, abscess right on the eyeball, other eye is fine. Have put orbenin cream in, anything else ? Thanks.

For the symptoms:
Steroid (0.25ml) and Alamycin (0.25ml) and inject into the conjunctiva. Speak to a vet to work out the correct steroid. A new, very fine, needle between filling the syringe and injecting the lamb.

For the cause:
Inject 0.5ml pen strep into the eyelid, so it inflates slightly and the lashes don’t scratch the cornea.

Not got the confidence for injecting into the eye tbh. Will give it 48 hrs with the orbenin and phone vet see if they would let me pop it down there (think corona stymied that though).

Gosh, not into the eyeball, but the bit around it. But yes, best get a vet to do it.

Eyelid for the entropion - that’s the cause, and conjunctiva for the steroid and alamycin. That’s a bit too close to things for me too, if I’m honest.

Have a look on youtube, Maybe some one has put it on there. You need someone very determined to hold the lamb. It's not that difficult

The eyelid doesn't look so bad for entropian and its quite early for it to look that bad is there anything else that can cause this? or can the irritation start before birth?

We have just had a calf born with an eye problem, but seems to responding to the eye ointment

An eye would not get to that stage in 2 days through rubbing. It is close to rupture already. I suspect some congenital infection bug nothing lost with using regular cream.
The injection is into the fleshy lower lid. Firm grip by assistant, your thumb rolls the eyelid out and aim parallel to the eyeball with a fine needle.
