I think the number of winters will have a fairly large influence on overall footprint (excluding methane).
Personally I prefer to see cattle off the farm ASAP.

1 winter instead of 2 means that in a lifetime finishing cattle eat less conserved forage, need half the housing facilities, put less hours on machinery meaning it will last more winters ...
But what if you don’t need machinery or silage or housing or fert but slaughter at 30m 🤔

That depends on how many cattle you can deal with on the place at any one time.

That's fine on a hill farm where you don't house stock, but keeping a cow and her last 3 calves on the farm at any time doesn't make sense in most cases IMO.

They get less than half of the rain we do, diffrent land maybe but definitely not wetter
They'll get less on average, around 2m/year, but that doesn't mean they can outwinter cattle, ground conditions just can't handle it.
I have a friend on Mull who get 11ft of rain per year, and they outwinter cows on a hill, if we got that here, there's no way we could keep cows out on fields.

As I said it’s the land as well as the rain, but I’m just trying to get across that not everyone has the same system and putting in stupid restrictions would make things worse
