National Food Strategy

Dimbleby was in a difficult position, he has had to come up with something otherwise everyone would say what a waste of fuggin time, he can't propose anything of substance because he was given an advisory panel controlled by the cartel - see link - so his only way out has been to propose meaningless but media friendly guff. Marcus Rashford will give it the thumbs up, everyone will move on, and the food system will remain as unsustainable as it is now.

Should we read anything into where the person representing the primary producers sits on that list?

Just what I thought - bottom of the s**t pile as usual.

But looking at most of the others on that list two words come to mind - ‘vested’ and ‘interest’

Nothing short of rationing will improve diets. People getting free fruit and veg will chuck it in the bin then go to a food bank for crisps and choccy bars.
Many people have been subsisting on appalling diets for so long that far from helping them the influx of nutrients from eating an apple would kill them stone dead.

Exactly.. Make it free and it becomes even more worthless and destined to be wasted.

Unless it's swedes, spuds and cabbage, it'll be imported from S America and Africa.

Then they'll make every farm plant trees to offset the environmental impact of flying it all in.

That and everyone flying out on their holidays which it seems they’re determined to do!

Batters and Kendall, couldn’t they find a chair for Raymond as well? 🤣

I see the Nation Food Strategy due out next week has been leaked to the papers. Write up in the Times today.

Aims - "break the junk food cycle"

Headline - "Free fruit and Veg planned for the poor"

Mentions for eating Algae instead of meat. A "meat tax" is not going to be included, but doesn't look like a carbon tax is either.
Sounds a bit like a USSR "five year plan", these were a notable success. I am super happy and comforted to know that the state is controlling more and more, nothing will go wrong and anything that does will be the fault of undesirables not co-operating. Perhaps we will all be able to join in say, banging pots and pans outside our doors in grateful thanks for the plan.

There's already a company developing these for inclusion in animal feed rations.

Yes, I believe the Dutch are investing heavily in insects for animal feed

We have a French company partnering with ADM at there Decatur IL headquarters to grow and process fly protein. It will use waste heat and byproduct from there other operations. ADM also has one of the biggest plants in the world producing lysine at this huge facility. It is 12 miles from me , so I will get a chance to see if it prospers.

Off course, one of the best ways to improve the nation's diet would be to get people to eat more dairy products.

I know this sounds a bit way out there, but what about every school kid gets a free bottle of milk a day?

They do in Wales, or our school seems to anyway. They have a small bottle every afternoon brake.

Writings been on the wall for years about this. Brexit provided the perfect storm and cover to get this through and as I’ve moaned on about for ages, U.K. food production is going to be organic. If your not producing organic you’ve been sold down the river and your only answer is ELMS.
All other food that’s not U.K. organic will be imported via the multiple trade deals already signed up as well as the impending ones.

If you want to carry on as you are trying to compete with none organic imports then you’ll have to subsidise your own farm with diversification’s.

In other words your now going to provide your own SFP to carry on farming.

I’ve seen lots of farmers in the press saying they’ll diversify to replace the outgoing SFP …….. how stupid is that when you actually think about it, just so they can carry on farming!
