I see the Nation Food Strategy due out next week has been leaked to the papers. Write up in the Times today.

Aims - "break the junk food cycle"

Headline - "Free fruit and Veg planned for the poor"

Mentions for eating Algae instead of meat. A "meat tax" is not going to be included, but doesn't look like a carbon tax is either.

Not like fruit and veg is expensive and is readily available last time I looked?

Dimbleby was in a difficult position, he has had to come up with something otherwise everyone would say what a waste of fuggin time, he can't propose anything of substance because he was given an advisory panel controlled by the cartel - see link - so his only way out has been to propose meaningless but media friendly guff. Marcus Rashford will give it the thumbs up, everyone will move on, and the food system will remain as unsustainable as it is now.

Should we read anything into where the person representing the primary producers sits on that list?

Would have been nice to have seen some sort of statement from the NfU, saying what they would be pushing for from the National Food Strategy.
edit; This strategy had the potential to be far, far more beneficial for UK farmers than the doomed 'produced to our standards' campaign, yet where has all the NFU effort gone ?

Unless it's swedes, spuds and cabbage, it'll be imported from S America and Africa.

Then they'll make every farm plant trees to offset the environmental impact of flying it all in.

Off course, one of the best ways to improve the nation's diet would be to get people to eat more dairy products.

I know this sounds a bit way out there, but what about every school kid gets a free bottle of milk a day?

Free milk every day? That's ok as long as the sugars are removed, artificial sweeteners added and it's labelled ' No added sugar'
Can't have little Humpty loading on the lard with this dangerous blue top!

Fantastic statistic quoted ...

“With 0.5ha of land and the kind of organic waste that goes in your food bin, the larvae of the black soldier fly can make as much protein as cows fed on 12,000ha of land”

The future is chewing on insects

If I was a young man with a few acres and a big shed, I would be seriously looking at it

I like seaweed. It should be part of a healthy, balanced, diet, imv. Could we grow enough in the unpolluted coastal waters of this European archipelago for everyone in this group of nations to include sea algae in their diet?
