National grid alert

I had a letter from Npower saying 'we're coming on 10th Nov to fit a smart meter'

So I rung and said 'no you aren't'

'you have to'

'I don't have to anything'

'We Have to,The government says'

'I think the gov have enough on their plate at the moment without bothering with my meter'

'I'll cancel the appointment and try again next year'
The government say that they have to try to get you to have one, but they aren't mandatory...

Not been involved for a few years but used to be fairly common occurrence during late afternoon in winter when grid used to message heavy users to turn big equipment off. There were clauses in supply contract that allowed them to put price far above economic levels if request was ignored. Used to be called Triad warning and was used as a method of balancing supplies.

I have just received an alert from the National Grid that demand this afternoon will be within 1/3rd % as I understand of capacity.
Time to check your generators! And put your electric cars away.
But, what are we doing in this situation?

Am seeing more Teslas on Lincolnshire roads. DO you suggest I chuck a tow rope into the back of my truck. What is the going rate for assisting a Tesla?

everyone knows the grid wont be up to it shortly.

as for renewable s you lot seem to have as closed minds as the government........ or is it to do with politics......its not money because that gets wasted enough ....

It all has its place but coastal generation still has to get it to the areas that need it in land.

Have the environmental considerations been fully understood yet?

I think they had a ‘wiggly worm’ off Shetland that seemed the working well as a pilot

local power line upgrades ? instead of total grid upgrade

slightly different being wave power but
bit of work was being done down Cornwall.

Cornwall was getting a lot of money from the European funding dont know what will happen now.

all this stuff needs development to get right and as for those objecting to any type of project imo they should be last ones switched on in a power cut.

Not a problem.... that nice Mr Johnson has promised us that we’re going to be the Saudi Arabia of wind power. In fact, world beating

The point I was trying to make it that’s it’s well and good producing 100’s of MW of shore but new grid is needed to get it to the core demand.

Land generation around, for example London, injects the power where it’s needed so no / little grid upgrades are needed

The seven estuary would be a good place to keep S Wales going

Do we believe him any more than his double, the POTUS?

Boris, to be fair, has aged terribly since the Covid infection he had. He doesn't look at all well in my opinion, whether in natural pale or tinted orange.

I am not sure you are supposed to tow electric cars, as I understand it most do not have a neutral and towing can result in destroying the drivetrain. 🤷‍♂️ Best just drive round with a diesel generator and charge extortionary amounts to give them a bit of charge.

Until Brexit threw it into disarray, a connection was planned between France and England. The FAB project was due to land at Budleigh Salterton and connect into the NG near me on the outskirts of Exeter. If they were relying on this to top up the UK’s supply in the early 2020’s, it’s not going to happen for sometime now.

I really think you should look who was behind this interconnector!

You can’t just run off renewables, you need a good steady supply for base load to set the grid frequency, the wind turbines sync to the grid, if it wasn’t there they’d just spin out of control. Whilst solar is probably inverted to AC I doubt there is enough capacity to act as good baseload.

There is a connection between France and England already, as well as one to Belgium, one to Holland and one to Eire.

The answers is decent sized gas turbines left on standby ready. They can be at full load in under 2 minutes. Locate them where the power is needed and we have mini stations ready, no grid upgrades needed.

We have to have something fossil fuel based that’s efficient but cheap enough to run, granted much more ££££ than a big station but they are very expensive to have on tick over and take days to warm up and cool.

These are now being designed to run on hydrogen blends as well making them even more efficient.

NG want them, ive seen the letters from them. The issue planners not wanting such things as it doesn’t help them directly.

They only need to be on supply crashes.

Become very non PC by all accounts. Been looking at one for here, but no one interested now....
