National ploughing Somerset

yes, the young man did very well and seemed confident. I gave him some high marks on a couple of aspects - pleased to see he is being coached well on the importance of taking easy points like attention to detail on his ins and outs - he was one of the highest scores on that aspect and put many, more experienced ploughmen to shame

Not good enough you under estimate your self 2nd place at your first national is bad at all, well done

Thanks

Had a great weekend learnt a lot more watching than driving

Was hoping for top 5 chuffed with 2nd.

Keep improving is the goal. See were it goes
Did not feel out of place

Must add that the change in format for the vintage classes made the whole weekend better.

Yes great weekend like the new format. Only downside was someone sabotaged Rob Snowdon's plough on Saturday night after he ploughed the best plot on Saturday, in my opinion, if you have to do that to win it's time to pack up.

Get away:eek:
FFS, Does that kind of cr@p go on often??
I stood and watched two chaps plough most of their plots in the 'Classic' class at our local match on Sunday, and I appreciate there wasn't as much at stake as in Somerset, but I was delighted that they both were happy to talk to me as they made their adjustments at each end (neither of them knew me from Adam) and freely explained about their tractors/ploughs and what they were doing, and why. I thought then, "What a decent bunch these ploughing guys seem to be"
Seems like it gets a bit cut throat at the higher levels:confused::(

Hi I believe that the two chaps you were talking to were John Plowright and Robert Morley both are good friends of mine and John had read your post but isn`t able to reply he is really pleased you enjoyed talking and listening to him .people like John and Robert are what make this sport enjoyable they will give information freely hoping that you will be ploughing a plot next to them it`s not all about winning it`s also about keeping it going too

Steve was 18 apparently when he qualified for Europeans - didn't plough in yfc class as it would have meant either he or Ian brewer would have missed to get into the plough off - Ian won the yfc class and steve qualified for the plough off from the open class
Didn't Allan come 3rd in yfc that year?

@yellowbelly I have made some great friends through ploughing although I do not plough myself. At York I had the pleasure of talking to the NZ who is chair of the WPO. He relayed the message that the guy I helped at Wispington in 84 had sadly passed away 3 days before(Norman Wymer) another of the NZ Bruce Smith passed away a couple of years back. My wife, daughter and her boyfriend had a long chat to NZ Malcolm Taylor at York, Katie got an invitation to head to NZ when she is fit! They are a grand bunch.
