What's with the laugh reacts? Surely this is, at the very least, a cross compliance failure?

Does no one else think this should in fact be grounds for a prosecution? Imagine the NT reaction had they found one of their tenants doing this?

Totally agree. One of those things that's going to need a lot of public pressure to get anywhere though. Otherwise it will just get swept under the table.
Everyone should report them to whoever pays the sub.

Breach of EIA regulations? If it hadn't been cultivated in the last 15 years they could be prosecuted 🤞. It probably should have gone through Natural England for change of land use just as we would have to if we ploughed permanent pasture.

Someone (NFU I'm looking at you) needs to be pressuring the RPA and Natural England to ensure sub reductions and prosecutions materialise.

What it doesn't do is tell you how to report a breach

My laugh was ironic, reading the “oh dear we have made a little mistake” apology actually made me furious as I am sure that will be the end of the matter, where we farmers get disproportionate fines for every tiny tiny mistake. It is entirely wrong and the book should be thrown at somebody.

@Defra Farming ?

Perhaps our esteemed NFU might be able to weigh in, but then of course the National Trust clearly are farmers......

We should consider that their not getting a fine, and trite apology sets a future precedent for other farmers.
