NT have a stated aim of 25% of there land in environment management, trees, mob grazing and whatever else suits. Absolutely anything that comes back in hand, whatever the potential has a scheme drawn up by an enthusiastic graduate.

National Trust are like the RSPCA, a once great organisation that was highly regarded and loved in the country but one which I would now not give any support to at all.
Both driven and controlled by fundamentalists …….. with the emphasis on mental 🤣🤣🤣
Yes exactly. How can something go so far off track? I really loathe them both with a passion.

To me its a consequence of our education system, we used to turn out vast quantities of people with practical skills, who had either done full time vocational courses or day release. These were the people who then looked after the land, the buildings etc. Now we turn out vast quantities of people with degrees in biological sciences etc who know their job is to carry out endless studies into the effect of doing nothing. In another 20 years when the ground nesting birds have disappeared due to rewilding they will have all the information at their finger tips to pinpoint exactly when it all went wrong.
If you've spent three years as an undergraduate and then as they increasingly do another year for a masters, incurring a vast tuition fee debt along the way, you know that any form of manual labour to help the environment is for the less fortunate, hence nothing practical is acheived.

Pentire, that’s where the Jane’s boys farmed but that’s Wadebridge way not Bude end of North Cornish coast.
Reckon they must have improved it a bit at those rates compared with last time I was in the kitchen 😮🤦

The locals know how badly the tenants were treated. Trouble is that there will be fewer locals as all this inward migration for "lifestyle choices" continues.

A beautiful farm made to go downhill. Doubtful the donor had the NT's changes in mind when donating. Where's its endowment gone to, I wonder? Why wasn't it used to improve the place when it was tenanted?

Can't like that! A bit too close to reality. I fear what is going to happen next.

Apologies. I didn't intend to cause upset.

I know of a beautiful place that the average person on an Omnibus would expect to be donated to the NT in due course ~ and it would be, but for the not remotely small matter of the endowment, plus a reluctant mistrust of the direction that the NT appears to have taken.
The NT's appeals for dosh do tug at those who consider it a benign organisation because so little is published about its other faces.

Has the NT ever sold any land?

Many of the agreements made when land was given to them, there were stipulations that it could not be sold.
I don't know how watertight these conditions are today.
In some cases it would be more logical to sell. They have one field next to a block of land I farm which has a busy main road and poor access. It would be better if they sold it to me or rented it out.

The National Trust used to describe their land as "inalienable" in effect saying it would never be sold unless their hand was forced by a compulsory purchase order. I recall however there was a recent case where they sold land for housing to the dismay of neighbours

They used to sell stone barns for conversion and a few acres on 99year leases.
I'm sure in order to justify their actions they would say leasing is different to selling.
