Thanks I think I am bloody mad I was the youngest there at 20! And clearly came from less money than most but I have got working for an award winning farm for conservation in my favour!
Sounds ideal

You keep building on that reputation

I am proud of what I have achieved as a custodian on two blocks of HLS with my Galloways and would have no hesitation in using English Nature or Wildlife Trust credentials in helping me gain more conservation grazing

Extensive but intelligent grazing by non selective cattle and sheep have transformed some of the challenged land I've taken on

I went I am very interested in renting it!
I have spoken to there different advisory people on the conservation and the sheep and inside y parc boundaries it is possible to get a decent scanning rate its good ground! They are wanting native breeds used but aren't fussed on the breed as long as its a hardy breed.
How ever there were a lot of alternative types interested, me and my brother didn't realise Laylines and positive energy being felt in the fields was important to farming, this was where we must be going wrong! :)
So is it actually a pound?! And are they going to stock it or would you? Best of luck if you decide to go for it, sounds like there is some potential there.

Well technically yes but no! Because of the restrictions it means your unable to farm it as you want. And they provide the stock. It seems a good idea would look to build my own flock up along side over the ten years.

All the very best with your application.

Good idea to build up your own flock if possible. I am not far from The Orme. It won't be a walk in the park as some make it out to be, or maybe some applicants think. There will be a lot of shepherding required over the 1st few years. Sheep will have no idea where they are. Good chance for a youngster as a stepping stone. I just can't bring myself around to the Trust's methods/ideas. But you have the conservational background.
Just remember they pay two shepherds £20/hr to do similar work at Hafod y Llan.
Its got to work for you as well as the trust, not wanting you to disclose plans etc, but make sure you exploit the 600K visitors in your business plan.;)

The tenant there now has really looked after the place, but he admits himself it was a lot of hard work in those first 5 years

Really?! That works out at 35 grand a year. I'm seriously considering my life choices here

Its what I said from the start. They should be paying someone a salary to do the job, not letting someone take all the financial risk on their behalf. If they want their farm to be farmed their way, then they should pay someone a proper salary to do so and in that way the NT gets all the profit above the salary cost. Win-win situation, don't you think?

They obviously don't work full-time on the shepherding, and that includes a charge for their sheepdogs too.

I think I remember seeing that come up I the press and discounted it because it wasn't full time. If I lived local to something like that I would take the hit. It's more than I earn an hour and less stressful.
