I can't see any problems with this free house and farm in return for part time work great start for any one. Don't tell the NT you will only be part time tho
@exmoor dave , I m just ringing Rachel to see if I can rent mine for a quid, I will let you know what she says !!!
I think your view is 100% correct. Their will be a que of farmers wanting to stitch themselves up tho.Apparently the farm, worth £1million is going for a song

However, in my view it looks like the landlord, the National Trust, is actually wanting some mug to do a warden's work without the wage or the costs of farming in a way they know isn't viable. What do you think?
Great minds think alike! There is already a thread about this, "national trust"
If I we're renting mine out the only condition id have is the tenant paid me shed loads of cash! There's a farm near Ashbourne to let, the landlord would like the tenant to keep longhorn cattle
The current tennant is a good mate of mine, been there since 2003, the trust have only just bought it, prior to that it belonged to dean Saunders, who bought it in iirc 2001/2 from the farmer who owned it. Pretty sure he will remain there. It's not a place for everybody, mountain is harsh, and it's a harsh place in winter, very windy. Good buildings, silage pit etc, bungalow half a mile away. Constant hassle with dogs, tourists and thieving knobs. Also the bitch country park warden, focks everyone around, contractors who do work for the park strimming etc, my mate, everyone, she's a nightmare, who's also a member of PETA, or whatever, she's been rumbled releasing foxes on to the place that come by van loads, urban ones, like shooting fish in a barrel, most of the foxes starve to death, but a few are enough to cause damage. My mate and his old man are long used to all the goings on, all the wardens dirty tricks as well as the other issues. Anyone thinking it's going to be a walk in the park is very mistaken.Something in the back of my mind tells me the current tenant hasn't been there very long. That must tell us something........

Ah, that's what made me think it had been up for rent in the last couple of years.Been advertised a while
Other than the warden why are they moving on ?The current tennant is a good mate of mine, been there since 2003, the trust have only just bought it, prior to that it belonged to dean Saunders, who bought it in iirc 2001/2 from the farmer who owned it. Dunno, he was Dean Saunders tennant up until the trust bought it last year, still there now as far as I know. Why has the farm come up for lease now?
They're not as far as I know, an educated guess it's just the trust putting it up for a competitive tender for their rubbish schemes, hoops of fire, all that sh!t. My mates been one step ahead of the bitch warden from day one, no flies on him.Other than the warden why are they moving on ?

Trouble with is all you would get back is old grass acidic soil bust drains knackered fences ruin for a house and dilapidated buildings that will cost you more than any rent you have received. If I we're renting mine out the only condition id have is the tenant paid me shed loads of cash!
those pesky ramblers might start a fire? twisted fire starter @exmoor daveI doubt you'd be allowed to burn the gorse. I'm out.
I agree, True on all accounts, no idea if he's moving on or not, but if you land up as tenant there, you'd better be good at chess and cat and mouse. As for viability I've no idea, I suppose the trust would be the recipients of any glastir / stewardship schemes? Otherwise it would be out to tender for going rate?Tell you what though, if he's not moving on and a mate of yours, your posts will not be conducive to better relations between them. Please don't land him in the shite with the warden.
At 150 acres with all the restrictions, there is no way on earth that that slab of exposed rock makes a viable farm. I'd let the Trust employ a farm manager at a proper wage rather than con some unfortunate to work it while paying them £1, which is probably several thousand Pounds too many.
