I have just tried to ring the Stockman who I know. I believe it was a photographic competition judged by people all over the world! If you go to the Cowford facebook page they have also done well with a Shorthorn Cow. 'Grrr'!! He does look a nice animal!!

He's some bull anyway!

Only about 10% of a bull's worth can be judged on his appearance. The other 90% of his worth can only be judged on how his progeny perform.

Another fact of life is that a bull (or cow) fed and dressed for show purposes, looks to be a bout 50% bigger and grander than the same animal in poorer lean condition.

Thank you for that Professor @Agrivator! You are correct of course, EBVs are the best objectve assessment of an animal 👍

No. EBVs for a bull are estimated measurements of his breeding values.

How his progeny perform are actual definite proven obvious measurements of his breeding value.

Sometimes there is no relationship between the two.

Feed that accurate data back into the system and their should be. Although I would agree that the small size of the typical UK pedigree beef herd, and so the contemporary groups, does nothing to help accuracies.

But data provided by farmers and stockmen isn't worth the paper it's not written on.
