i would have thought sd x saler cow put to a good charolais would be eutophia , it would to me any way!
as I tried explaining to some lim posters elsewhere backalong- and my god what a rage it threw them into-....the value of having my choice of hefted purebred heifers is beyond price.
And anyway, we've been shepherding a purebred herd across that ford since long before the SD herdbook was started.... I wouldn't be the man to mess with that.

I use the saler on my South Devon heifers, I then keep the sd x sa heifers who go into the commercial herd and are crossed with a lim. Went for a saler as we were finding other native breeds crossed to the sd were too fat too small, we sell the steers as stores straight off the cows.

my heifers are either bred pure, or put to AA. Occasionally a galloway gets there, but its a waste.

I looked at Angus, Sussex and Herefords to use on the heifers but all just carried to much condition for us was struggling to get in calf as too fat. The resulting store price for the steers was also a bit of a let down. Did alot of research to find the right saler bull and so far I have not been disappointed. Always liked Galloways but would not sell well around here unfortunately.

Not for me unfortunately would be just too big. Building up to the point where we will be able to sell pedigree sd heifers and sa x sd heifers for breeding as tb 4 and high health. Looking into pelvic scoring too. Have been really ruthless over the years and now its really starting to show.
