We get a fair few little birds but the bird feeder is dominated and emptied in short order by fudging starlings, I hate them. Any idea as to how to keep them away?
On the way back from the vaccination yesterday I passed a house which had wooden railings as a roadside fence and they were lined up shoulder to shoulder there. Didn't take any notice of the car even though you could have reached through the window and touched them.

Saw a lone peewit fluttering about yesterday, they seem to suffer in hard weather. When we had the beast from the east I did a 100 mile round trip and there seemed to be a lone peewit in every field.

We get a red/black woodpecker in our garden quite regularly, he likes our apple tree so much he bored a hole in part of it. I don't know what they eat but he seems to be about a fair bit.

We get goldfinches, chaffinches and long tailed tits all the time in mobs. I do wish the starlings would pish off though.

I saw stonechats and meadow pipits hunting where the cattle had walked and exposed the mud, after it had snowed last week. I’m ashamed to say I didn’t know what they were and had to ask on a WhatsApp group I’m in.

we've a couple of the 'squirrel proof' feeders that hold the peanuts, the bluetits etc can get to them but the outer cage keeps the starlings off.
(They aren't squirrel proof btw, they can get their claws in and rip at the wire, alternative means of 'deterring' the squirrels are employed)

Anyone getting invaded by parakeets? We had 2 turn up before Xmas and now have 6 regularly on our feeders. They chase off native sing birds so get chased away if we see them.

Came across a fair sized flock of Lapwing the other day, on a barley stubble field, nice to see them as they are strangers these days.

Saw a flock of 30 here last week on some stubble turnips, great to see as haven't seen any on the farm for a few years either.
Edit. Hope they go somewhere else to breed, wont stand a chance with the amount of badgers around here:mad:
