I know BACS is dead easy once a payee has been registered once, but again there should be room for logging details linked to the payment in the app.

HSBC are a bugger for dropping payees off your payment list if you haven't used BACS (paid to) them in the last 12 months. Can be quite annoying for irregular payees.

Very old thread I know, but recently saw this message from my bank:

"Beginning this month a new industry-wide system is being phased in throughout 2018 which will allow banks to exchange electronic images of cheques instead of the current system of exchanging paper cheques. This will result in funds becoming available for withdrawl (with no risk of the funds being reclaimed) by midnight on the weekday after the cheque has been paid-in. Conversely for any cheque you issue, the funds will leave your account sooner."

To be honest I thought they were ready to phase them out altogether, but there must have been some stay of execution.

If I received a cheque in the post, I wouldn't be able to pay it in using my mobile phone as I can't get a signal at home.

Then use your computer or do it from your car where there is a signal. A signal is likely to be closer to most people than a bank branch.

Yes I've noticed that in the last few weeks It was an advantage to have money available after 2 days now have to watch account for when I can spend any.
Try to get most payments in by bacs to stop this problem

my bank has become useless when when it comes to cheques,and the best bit is it has become a saving.
as i can't spend it on sh!t i don't need

You jest, but look at what happened to TSB when they tried to upgrade from Commodore 64 to Windows 95...
