A 4 year old Hilux invincible with average mileage will be closer to 20k.
That's why Toyota sell so many .

That's still depreciation in 000's per year. I prefer mine in 00's per year. 4yo Toyota for £20k is twice what I want to pay for something to ride around in, I'd rather spend money on stuff that makes work easier or more profitable.
My vehicle budget used to be £5k but prices rose to a point where 5k only buys you end of line motors that lasted 2yrs before becoming too knackered. £10k pickups seem better value.

Had a new DMax a couple of weeks, replaced a previous 1.9 very happy with it so far
Pulls a stock trailer with 40 ewes no bother low first gear to enable you to pull away on a hill, better than the previous 2.5
Had a long run average 35mpg and I wasn’t hanging around on the way back.
I’ve turned off most of the “safety” features which includes a lane departure steering most unnerving!

Just curious, what are you towing around all the time?
Builders utes seem to spend the most time towing round these parts, farm utes not so much.
I think orders have filled fast in the last week or two here as the PM has announced a new charge on pick ups and other "polluting" vehicles. Up to$5000 on a new one I think, starting next year, they're bloody expensive as it is.
Ffs, whats Clarke going to use to tow the boat and needs to be a double cab to get all his kids in!!!😆

Clarkes already lost his gratis Colorado.. no info yet on what's he going to pull his gratis boat with... for sure it wont be Jacinda's new Audi E-Tron ministerial car.. strange she going for a $200k electric car, but expects us mere mortals to drive around in a Toyota Prius... strange...oh I forget, we pay for her car, so she doesn't need to buy a Prius !

York Van Centre lent me a demo ruck when mine went for MOT - workman spec which appealed. I have to say it went very well - there seems to be a phsycological barrier with the 1.9 engine - 'it's under 2 litre so its sh!t before I even drive it' kind of thing. Stick a trailer on and go for a drive round a regular route with one, time it, then do the same with your old one - there'll be nowt in it. They're chipable apparently, but as long as I aren't constantly having to change gear all the time and it has a low enough first gear to set off loaded without resorting to low box I aren't much bothered tbh. Some folk have to get to places before they've set off!

4yo is about when I buy them - this will be mine til the old farm truck expires, then it will become the farm truck. DPF is a pain - mine does it about every 100miles unless it gets a run out (much less this year!) but tbh bar the fact it does it, it hasn't cost me any money or hassle.

York vans lent me one - with a view to selling me one no doubt! It was an auto x-cross (or whatever?). I did put a trailer on and took it up and down dale and even up past @Drillman

To be fair it was ok. Seemed like it had to rev a bit harder than my 2.5 (both autos). I didn't dislike it at all but first impressions picking it up from York Vans was it felt a bit flat against my 2.5. Overtaking wasn't the best of experiences. Hasn't much go about it from 40 or 50mph. Rightly or wrongly that was my thoughts and that is what put me off - that and they have become expensive at top end of range at least.

Pendle Performance (on facebook) posted a vid a couple of weeks back or so having tuned the new 1.9 d Max. Think Isuzu garage at Skipton had sent them a new d max for development on rolling road and got around 214bph and470 Nm of torque (sorry I’ve forgot the exact figures) . That vid seems to have been pulled for some reason though linked a couple of the original 1.9. His comment in his vid said it made it a different truck and got rid of the flat spots. He also said that the standard engine is badly set up up by Isuzu and "is absolute garbage"

Take it to Feather Diesel in Elland - They will sort it ...... It's where main dealers send their problems.

I thought they took them to Euro Car Auctions

It would appear most diesel pickups with DPF can become problematic if subjected to a lot of short runs. Mine has gone from 120ish miles between regens to 30 or 40 miles. It becomes annoying when I’m approaching the yard no matter how far I’ve gone and it’ll start a regen. I’m told it’s best to let it complete the cycle so have gone around the block or left it running with a stick holding throttle at around 1600rpm whilst it finishes.

Facebook Isuzu group subject that often comes up is probs with DPF and seems quite a few that have had dpf removed and remapped. I'm currently trying a small cable that stops the EGR opening as some say it's stops it regenerating as much. It was £28 which is probably expensive for what it is but I'll see how it goes. Only been on since Friday so can't comment yet. Google Munji cable I think though mine made by someone else.

That lane departure warning is to discourage you from trying to overtake anything except a pedal bike 😜

No it's not.
My 2019 Toyota when new cost less than £24k with 5 years warranty and not needing a service for 12 months .Been offered over £22kfor it now where as if I had bought a high mileage sh i would have spent money on tyres ,servicing and repairs and been more out of pocket on running costs.
Obviously your tying more money up new than buying secondhand.
Bought another new 2.8 pre ordered at the right money and expect
that to have rock solid depreciation too as well as excellent warranty cover.

Full spec X with roll over top Auto ,bronze just over £30k+vat
Assuming your last one was similar spec, even though the residual is in theory good, it's cost you 4grand a year to stand still.
000's a year, as I said.
Not critisising, each to their own and all that, someone has to buy the new ones so us peasants have some second hand choice!

Completely different spec .
I could have bought the same spec as the 19 for £25k new.
You stated your 5k pick up was near scrap after 2 years
so looks like your suffering depreciation of some kind too
as well as increased repair costs.:)

Have a lovely 13plate defender that I'm about to sell ,now
we could go through the depreciation costs of that
compared to if I had bought a secondhand pickup at the time .;)

I stopped buying 5 grand pickups because like everything else, you get less for your money than you used to.

Not too long ago £15k would buy a new pickup, now they're 25. It's all relative.

Nothing is depreciation proof. Except a Defender...and that's because they're not made any more!

The point I'm making is certain makes depreciate far less than others
driving out the showroom..
Used to be the case that all new vehicles were false economy whereas
certain brands now look very dear as 2-3 year old vehicles.

I'm afraid I have to agree with Joe s posts on this one been a Isuzu fan from early 90s but the 1.9 is absolutely crap I had one on demo for a weekend and compared to my navara d40 what a terrible engine they have made I loaded our flat trailer with 2.4t of front weights for a tractor plus weight of trailer will have been under 3.5t used our local hill as a test 30mph 3rd gear at the bottom then floor it navara was doing 40mph in 3rd by the top Isuzu was in 1st struggling to get more than 10 to 15mph by the top and it was a painful experience trying to set off at the top of this hill in the Isuzu as well easy to say there's a psychology barrier to buying a 1.9 but after testing there's really no replacement for displacement

I'd agree. I came up with a similar view when I looked at a few s/h JCB TM320s last summer - and decided that best value was to be had by buying new and keeping it a long time, like it's last two predessors
