Naylor’s Cabbage Factory

meh....very niche.....brassicas need a wide rotation so never really going to challenge meat production....plus it needs the decent arable land and irrigation........a lot of meat is produced on pasture land that couldn't produce food any other way

good luck to them in the meantime :)

Shall have to give my grade 3 unirrigated land a good telling off does 40 to 60 ton per acre easily of industrial cabbage.

Westerners live in a Walt Disney world; if you have the Russians or Chinese on your doorstep like the Ukrainians or Taiwanese the last thing you're thinking about is the feelings of sentient beings.
"Formally recognising in law that animals are sentient and experience feelings in the same way humans do is just the first step" says Lord Goldsmith.

But they don't.

A few simple humans interpret animal thoughts and actions in human terms.

No. In fact I am not even sure if it ever worked.
I grew some for a demontfod uni project that used the process
it produced descent fibre but was never commercialised

it could have worked with sufficient investment and scale
the biggest issue I saw was marketing the fibre
growing it here was not too difficult but needed specialist harvesting equipment developing
cottonised flax could have replaced Cotten but would have been more environmentlly sustainable but needed desication with glyphosate
cotten is either gm or has multiple insecticides needed and is either heavy on irrigation or low yielding on dry land system see farmer Roy’s posts

Black Land in lincolnshire used to be like that untill the stored organic matter was all burnt up
I’ve never seen cabbages on black land in my part of Lincolnshire. My Great Grandfather farmed near to Boston on silt and he would visit his daughter my Grandmother every harvest time and go around telling my Grandfather he was wasting his time on black land working twice as hard for half as much.
