It's great to see this being sorted out , to the lads who say they havnt had a problem just watch out , this was a terrible unfortunate tragedy that could have been avoided , there are a lot of these same trailers out there so please take care and modify them to make them safe , you don't want to have to go to a funeral like I did because of a simple accident , the biggest funeral I ever witnessed, thousands of young people in shock at losing one of the most popular 19 yr olds Ireland ever produced , a great sportsman who had already played rugby with Leinster and Ireland , had played GAA for his club and county , he gave me a hand raking silage on a few occasions . A nicer young man you could not meet . RIP Adam , at least some good has come out of your terrible tragedy .

Not had any experience of these trailers what makes them so dangerous? Is the tail board spring loaded or something ?

Its automatic, as the trailer tips it allows the door to go to a position of a nondoor dump trailer, as it drops it pushes it back up, it can be made to stay down by flicking a lever while fully tipped then lowering. I think the accident was a stone jammed it to stop it closing and the operator tried to free it while it was under great tension when the trailer was down, re tipping it would have freed the stone or at least removed the tension.

So I take it the poor lad used a bar or similar to remove the stone while the door was under tension, he freed the stone and the door hit him with lethal force? Tragic waste of life.

The bar hit him on the head , instant death . Some disaster as he was only visiting a friends farm for the day . He wasn't evening driving the tractor / trailer .
