I'm in the same boat as you @neilo - indoor lambers are all but done, one single left but she's going out with the Cheviots who are due on the 1st. First one lambed today - a single. Was up and sucked when I checked them. They are on bare earth now but moving to a bare grass paddock next to the house tomorrow.
Ewe lambs are almost done - 11 singles and one twin left. They will all be kicked out on Sunday.

I thought that when I wrote it, but you know what I mean. Do you breed replacements from your highlanders?

I know what you mean, and yes I do. Mature Highlander still going strong, and have also tried a couple of NZ Texels and, this year, a high index Lleyn, for breeding replacements. I bought 10 Lleyn ewe lambs from the same place as the ram last year, but they certainly haven't come through the winter as well as the Highlanders, so certainly not blown away by them at the moment.
TBH, neither of my trial breeds have got close to ticking as many boxes as the Highlanders IMO, so I may have to sort something with Innovis yet. Their lower (mv) health status causes a few complications though, which may entail isolating a ram for 6 months somehow.:scratchhead:

Crikey Jem, have you got two lakes as well....................

.....................oh sorry, should have read the rest of your post first:LOL::LOL:

There are lakes where the Cheviots live (ex golf course) and a river all along one side of the farm... I've got a canoe...

Im the same, other trial breeds/composites havent really improved what I have in the highlander. So i got another couple of highlander tups last autumn again. Pretty sure it was said that flock is MV too.

Never see anything like that on my lakes.....:(;)
What a lovely place you have there with the lake and trees!
As a bit of diversification couldn't you offer some basic accommodation to your TFF sidekicks for post lambing R and R. One request please- that canoe and its contents please !(y)

Thanks. Unfortunately the canoe and it's contents are presumably in Dorset. We could perhaps organise sight seeing excursions as part of the package?

I suspect the model's 7' husband was sitting in the back of the canoe taking the photo though (typical woman, making the poor fella do the paddling:whistle:).

Almost ready to start the outdoor lambers, just waiting on some gales and rain.
Only 2 Charollais ewes left to lamb in the shed, which look fairly imminent.
Twins and trips have about tidied up the bolted turnips @5312 .....

Singles are finding it very hard to scavenge any more 'bits'.....

A pleasant surprise was waiting in the ewe lambs, which must be at least 7 days premature.....

New take off ramp is in place between the singles' & twins' paddocks, after a bit of swapsies with @same crap different day , and a bit of diggering from @Kevtherev while he was here draining.....

And the surest sign of approaching lambing .... I've pulled a muscle in my back.:(

I thought you'd have plenty of time to open gates since you have no work lambing and feeding your ewes:LOL:

Search and rescue are here today searching the river for a lady who went missing on Sunday [emoji22]

Had them here last week looking for a lady who had gone missing from town......they found her (all fine) 2 miles from town on the beach at the bottom of our cliffs.....at 10.30pm!!
Fudge knows how she got there cause there's no foot path only the beach which is very rocky :scratchhead:
