We did ours as a self build separate to the farm, in our joint names, our contractor bought most of the materials etc and charged 5% VAT, we bought lots of stuff such as light fittings etc, (all the stuff that qualifies is listed in the guidance that goes with the form, basically everything that would require tools to remove it qualifies, even the wood burner because the chimney goes through the roof, and landscaping etc) and simply filled in the form, photocopied all the invoices, sent it in and got a full refund of all the VAT. I think they disallowed one invoice for a light fitting cos it wasn't a proper vat invoice but that wasn't worth bothering about.

Pics were 2 weeks ago, glosswork done now and just waiting for plumber - again - then carpet on stairs and upstairs, vinyl flooring in upstairs bathroom.
Best get the Nissen hut demolished over Easter.
Masks and overalls shopping tomorrow. :bag::whistle:
