Hi everyone!!

I am in the process of making butter on a commercial level and am looking on the market for a high quality cream, can anyone help point me in the right direction please.

I am based in Bedford and would preferably like the cream to be sourced from a local dairy farm.

Any help would be greatly appreciated guys.

Kind regards

A minimum of 100 litres to start with (with a view to purchase more as the business grows).

Let me rephrase, I am looking for a fresh, raw cream with a 40%+ butterfat content.

and I was hoping you could give me a price.

Probably need to be talking to a medium size processor. Takes circa 1200 litres milk to get 100 litres cream.
Sorry, don`t have any contacts in your part of the country

A quick google threw up Marlow Dairy produce.
They cover your local area and are likely to know of the cream market suppliers for your area. Chances are there wont be a local dairy farm (not many of those in Bedfordshire). Most milk will be pooled and traded on contract in that area.
Are you processing any milk/food products at the moment?

thank you for your help.

I am currently purchasing small amounts of cream for experimental purposes but unfortunately they can not help any further.

As others have noted, unfortunately there are not many dairy farms in your area. Also on most milk contracts, farmers are not allowed to take cream from the milk, so you are really looking at a dairy that is already selling its own milk and then separating to sell skim/semi skim and cream.

There are a couple of farms near Melton Mowbray pasteurising and selling retail that I think are also selling cream, one is too small for you, couldn't do the volume, but it might be worth trying this one https://www.vinefarmdairy.co.uk/, they definitely sell wholesale and they definitely separate some of the cream as they sell it in the milk shed, so they may sell cream to trade, although their website only focuses on the vending machine. They have enough cows to be able to expand production easily.

OR, something else for you to experiment with, as whey will be a byproduct available from any cheese maker, and some do then separate the cream out of the whey for sale, if not making it into whey butter themselves (eg Lincolnshire Poacher https://lincolnshirepoachercheese.com/our-produce/lincolnshire-poacher-butter/ sell their own whey butter alongside their cheese).... https://www.slowfood.org.uk/ff-prod...er is a by,initial processes of cheese making.
