Need to shift my arse

Hi all, hope you all had a fab Christmas and all the best for 2020.

Is there anyone on here in the Ipswich, Suffolk area that fancies some weekend cycling ? I broke my knee two years ago and have struggled to get back on the saddle since then, I also think my mental health is a little low. Physically, I have no issues, I lack the desire to get back out, my weight is gaining which also gets me down.

I used to be a long distance cyclist and would like to at least get back to some leisure cycling.

I think it's more about my general fitness and not wanting to be at the back of the line in the easy ride group
I've not ridden in nearly a year and I'm seriously overweight, 19st. Probably should just bite the bullet and try.

Can you not just get a exercise bike you can ride in your garage/living room?

Save holding up other road users.

exercise bikes are demoralising, I have just signed up to PureGym so will look at some spinning classes as well.
and my arse is big but not that big  I used to ride with Essex Roads Cycle Club before moving to Suffolk, I have good riding etiquette.

As it happens I'm trying to re-free up some time again so that I can get back to my local farm that I was volunteering at.

I'm near Sudbury (if you're on that side of Ipswich) and there is a local bike shop that does off-road rides every Saturday if you fancy that. It's a really inclusive atmosphere with all abilities and fitness levels included. PM me if you're interested, or we might be near to each other for a ride out (y)

In exactly the same boat ,I haven't ridden for about 18 months but my mate who has had plenty of time, has gone from 'fat lad at the back' to whippet at the front, and now I need to up my fitness before I dare show my face again !

I was in this boat about 6-7 years ago, I had reached a aweful weight so my friend signed my up for the London to Southend ride... I joined the riding group Essex Roads CC and started on the "Easy" ride which was about 10-12 mph average and 20 miles.. I was at the back for the entire ride and just depressed the hell out of me. I found out where alot of them trained in the evenings, a lovely place called Hanningfield Reservoir which has 7.5 mile circuit. I trained on that daily for about 3 months and re-tried the club again. I didn't lead at anytime but importantly I was not last and therefore boosted my confidence.

I guess I need to do the same again, get my backside out there, start slow and steady and increase the pace.
