I think I can get them shipped to the UK at less cost than a JD OE part as well. I can only see them being better as the thinner wheel has to get better into the slot
my only reservation is why didn't JD fit a narrower wheel ? but then again they didn't fit gutlers either !
I designed the V press wheel for JD and they made 6 for me to try. They didn't last long as they were hollow in cross section and the stones soon cut them to shreds. I was talking with Phil via e-mail a couple of years later and mentioned the idea to him which he then copied, so I do believe them to be an improvement. However the newer JD press wheels are also now v shaped. If you swap to the Needham wheel you will need the whole wheel and bearing as Needham uses the same bearing as the guage wheels, with the new JD press wheels you'll probably only need the tyre.
I've been runing them for a few years now on a 1590. They do a great job and have given no issues even in muddy conditions "here". I cant imagine compacting the slot as at least on the 1590, one can eliminate any spring pressure, making them just roll along on their own weight, which is next to nothing.
Some pics of them on my drill when I first installed them. http://talk.newagtalk.com/forums/th...highlight=needhamized&highlightmode=1#M495267
If you or anyone order the things from needham can you get me 20 bonilla seed tabs and I'll pay you back (or ask Phil to pop a bag of them in the parcel and I'll pay him)
I had a good chat with Phil in Kansas (he sent his regards Will) and he said it's cheaper if he doesn't send the connecting bolts which are easily sourced in UK. The V8 wheel does look a lot neater than the JD standard one, I'd be interested to try a few if you're putting an order in Clive. One or two of the guys recommended just trying say a wing, and seeing how you get on with them...
