Negative Interaction between farm land and runways

Bit of a rare post here, even by my standards!

Dad caught tree surveyors on our patch today, they were 1.5 km from closest public road and half a km away from where they were actually supposed to be!

After some grovelling calls and conversations their boss sent me the plans they are working on, the possibility of a new commercial based runway on land next door.

Apparantly they were looking at anything 45m higher than ground level on their site for 3km in either direction. Given we are on a hill above them that must be a bad start for them….

Ignoring the survey today which we can’t stop, are there many things which can stop a runway from taking off….

I know that solar pannels and lakes can cause reflection but not sure that’s enough. Maybe some poplars planted on the hill!.!?

Has anyone been prevented from doing anything on their land due to a runway nearby?

Somewhat clutching at straws here but given the new government, a laughable proposal last month may now become reality…

I'm sure that planning permission for new barns etc is more complicated if you are with a certain distance of an airfield, due to height restrictions. And there was a thread on here a while back about airports trying to control what farmers did with land near them, because of birds being attracted (to ploughing for example).

No wind turbines

As said above, there are restrictions on planning within a certain distance of an airfield so if you’re thinking of putting a shed up in the future now might be a good time to get the planning sorted quick as I don’t think what might be in the future is a valid objection to a current application.

Planes are the best bit. It's the kamikaze dodgy off site meet and greet car parking. Never ever use 1 of these where you leave your car at the short stay.
As above planning is more difficult.
We've tried selling a few times and it's been negative as a lot of people look on Google maps and see we are so close but in actual fact we are a lot quieter as they are too low parallel to us, went 5 mile away the other evening and it was louder there.

If you want this runway development stopped ‘dead in the water’, then pass the information on the new runway / extension discretely to the members of Just Stop Oil…

…And when they jet back from their second homes in Tuscany, or the Cote D’Azure, Dordogne or wherever they’ll hide their Range Rovers and Q7’s etc in the 3 car garage and pretend they got their tans at home. Now is a great time to let them know, as Wimbledon has finished and the guilt ridden upper middle class retirees can spend all day ‘manning the battle lines’. Just as long as they can fill their hampers at Waitrose first.

Get any sheds, wind turbines etc built now while you still have no airport related restrictions. Plan for lucrative airport parking under cover (makes it more difficult for local planners to spot using aerial photography) Airport operators seem to believe they have the right to control what happens on their neighbours land. Bristol airport get their knickers in a twist when cattle are seen on Felton Common, usually as a result of them escaping but commoners rights are still in place so tough sh!t.

We are roughly 15 miles from Prestwick Airport , about the same from Glasgow Airport, they and NATS object strongly to any wind turbine development in this area, quite a few people have had feasible sites refused because of this.

About to get the 4th and final planing app over the line in a few weeks hopefully, started about 10 months ago so sorted there thanks.

The LPA don’t allow turbines but this may change now?

No wind turbines

Can’t get the and KT certain I woke want them either.

Yes all heights over I think 3m need planing, TBF never been turned down because of it.

The constant noise would be a bad thing ?

Agreed there!

Sell now and move before it becomes common knowledge? :nailbiting:

Been I the public domain for some time it so laughable it’s not been taken seriously. Possibly about to change.

Would never sell, I think we are on 5 th generation now here.

Use the nearest field and set yourself up as a commercial drone training provider / facility....I hear there's a high demand from many industries......;)

They are already restricted, every time I use mine have to tick the box to ackowledge it .

He’d only lie on the ground if there was a (very) ‘lose woman’ underneath him.

He lives locally but doubt he will get involved, certainly not publicallly.

Noise will be the biggie.

If that is going to negatively affect too many people then they'll be hugely restricted both in number of flights and time of operation, possibly to the degree that it's not going to be worth doing anyway.

After that vehicular access to the site will be the next big one.

It’s to replace one next door so I suspect both will be status quo

Viability doesn’t really seem to come in to this as it’s owned by the government…

Yes ag permitted development goes in the bin as you are limited to 3m height. Doesn’t matter if it’s a grass runway or acres of concrete, affects everyone within 3km.

so every application is full planning
