Over Christmas a big garden shed went up, however they have put the gutter down pipe out into my field ( brown soil pipe centre of pic)
What should I do:
1 Say nothing, it's only a bit of roof water
2 Complain to ........?
3 Tell them that I will need to put some bales down to soak up the water, about 50 quadrants should do it! They currently have a nice view across my fields to Taunton and the blackdowns

If on speaking terms simply ask them to remove it, and run it into a suitable receptacle on their own land.
If you dont speak, then a letter setting out the same.

You are lucky it is only a shed, last place, with consent of our LL owners of a very large house ran all their grey water into the field, and not only that, their utility room also discharged into it too! LL expect us to drain the field :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::finger:

Things like this really annoy me. People think they can do whatever they like just because we have far bigger gardens than what they do.

You have to think of it this way, if it was your pipe going into their garden - would they be sitting down having a cup of tea saying, ah it won't be a lot of water so maybe we'll say nothing. Not a chance. They'll be on the phone to every single person, council or SEPA or anything else they can think of telling them how much of a disgrace you are and reporting you as if you had murdered someone.

But then if we do say something about this pipe then WE'RE the big, bad, grumpy farmers. You're damned if you do and damned if you don't

I understand why you might take offense but in my view life is too short, and there are generally far more things to worry about than this sort of thing.

Next time you see them just say how nice the new shed looks and you don't mind the rain water coming your way as long as it doesn't cause any problems to your field (such as soil erosion). Ask them if they wouldn't mind keeping an eye on the field for you as you don't often get to check every corner. If they are reasonable and there is an issue I'm sure they will address it far quicker than you could and, if they aren't reasonable and there is an issue look to some of the suggestions already made.

Sometimes you do have to fall out with people and I'd never advocate backing away from that but you catch more flies with honey than you do with vinegar.

We have an "agricultural" neighbour who does his with his whole yard loose about 0.5 acres a year to it. I am going to plough a trench up the fence line so it runs straight into the nearest beck as sick of it
