Neighbours sheep invasion

Hi,

Just wondering what others do when another flock breaks out into your flock? Fairly new to sheep and trying to build up a flock and reputation and this is the first time this has happened and obviously I'm relieved it's not the other way round. He is going to sort out my fencing and separate my ewes off in the morning and take his closer too home. Obviously I will be a bit shorter on my planned grazing with the amount of sheep that crossed the river/stream and the obvious risk of spread of disease.

Are there any recommendations or precautions to take now disease spread wise?

Just a bit frustrating and wasted time etc. but what can you do? It could have been the other way round and perhaps it was a loose dog which caused them to break out? More thinking of disease risk I guess.

Thanks

Scab and abortion would be greater concerns for me at this point. To be fair to the OP he/she has the right attitude. This type of thing happens to us all and could easily have been the other way around so no point getting your knickers in a twist. But if it happens all the time...

Handbags at dawn!.

Yeah agreed, along with potential foot problems.

Am I right cydectin (injectable) will cover scab too?

Just an aside, but I think if your boundary is a stream or water course, it is for each side to fence off access to the water and the boundary is taken as the centre line in a perfect world. That means boundaries move as the watercourse moves (erosion, floods, etc). Anyway, it is a point to consider. Livestock can stray both ways.

Neighbour has had two ewes grazing our swedes from a bunch he is grazing next to us.

They just hop through a fence which is his responsibility.

I've told them twice in the last week, once yesterday when I had a word with their contract fencers who were repairing fences not 20 metres and they said they'd repair it.

The sheep are still happily grazing my swedes this morning.

To be fair the hole has been repaired but now they've got the taste they must be pushing in elsewhere!

I don't know the chap (well I do now). He had the same attitude I would have had, accepted responsibility and offered to put it right as didn't fence one section on his side thinking it would be OK. My side was electric fenced. He separated off the ewes and has taken his away and will fix fencing and accept responsibility for anything damaged. Genuine nice chap it seems. Bit worried about the mess left by the tractor pulling out his lorry but I'm sure the ground will sort itself out hopefully?

Disease - sounds like it's just a suck it and see approach then - hope for the best, treat any upcoming problems quickly and hope nothing spreads through the flock?

would think the biggest issue will be scab if he deals , if its his own flock expect you will ok , but watch for any rubbing , can you move your own sheep for a few weeks to let any foot / scab / disease issues die out .
It happens to us all , and might be other way around next time . no point going off on one unless its a regular issue ,

That's life for you. Things happen. Live with it and move on to the next problem.
I feel quite relieved when someone's sheep escape into mine. It's quite often the other way round!
