Anybody else growing it? It’s certainly done the business quality wise here at 15.9 protein, 79 bushel but even taking into account the drought it’s not yielded great at 2-2.5t/acre.

Year later it’s only done 3t/acre even though the crop looked good.I have only heard of a couple so far which was circa 8.0t hectare where one achieved 16.4% protein, spec weight over 80 kg/hl but cant recall the Hagberg. I’m assuming it was in the 300’s as it’s going into Heygates. The other was just under 14% protein, but in both cases however were grown on a minimum spend which is the variety’s strength whilst still producing the quality the end users like. I can appreciate 2.5t yields are disappointing but this is an unusual year all round, where we have seen some of our seed crops of feed varieties such as LG Spotlight and Costello just scrape over 2t per acre on farms who would expect to achieve 3.5t - 4.0t per acre. I think too date our best seed crop yield has been KWS Extase which achieved about 3.250 - 3.500t per acre. None of the 4t per acre yields for us I’m afraid. I think Nelson must have performed satisfactorily in the main as C2 seed has sold out and a lot of those orders are repeat growers from last year.

But how does that compare with other varieties?Year later it’s only done 3t/acre even though the crop looked good.
But how does that compare with other varieties?
I have ordered 3T Nelson seed to have a look next season.
