We are just going through planning for a new 1500t on floor grain store with drying.

Looking for any advice/tips from anyone who has done similar.

It is on a green field site on a new block of land that we have taken on.

Planning is in for a 40x24m shed which will be split in two by a tunnel and then probably wooden drying floors.

Just getting quote in for electric connection, 150m to a pole. [emoji33]

Thinking of one big electric fan with a propane burner, I like the idea of stirrers but never used them, any good??

It's been a while since we've done anything like this so interested if there are any new ideas for similar stores?

Got a quote back from uk power networks...

Basically they want to install a substation, one pole and about 30m of cable. All for the bargain price of £45k!!!!!!

Don't settle for first price mate. We found the threat of not wanting their poles on your land helped considerably with negotiations. Our last one started at 20+ and ended at £13 k transformer, 250 m 3 phase cable and supply. We dug trench though

Yes, we will certainly not be excepting the first offer, not got many other poles on this block.
Not really sure why we have to have a substation anyway, they want us to put in a roadway for them so they can access it 24/7!!!

Sounds like your funding their network. I think there was a ruling passed recently that allows you to shop around other companies to do the work? Although we found that the main companies sub out alot of the work so it's hard to get anyone to price against them iykwim.

Yes they sent a list of all the companies we could use for some of the work but it was just all the usual utility contractors that, as you say do most of the work anyway.

So each choc bar is 50 mm across 3 or 4 of these per channel. So 200 mm across the top. They sit at a guess with out measuring 70 or 80 mm deep. Total floor slab 200mm thickness. You want a layer of A252 under them then a second layer tied in all between them. There is a lot of prep to get them right but its worth it. when we get an empty bay I will take a photo for you.

Sorry @Derky,,I've read your posts and I've still no idea how you've built this.
If you put four choc bars wide, what supports them? One wheel ontop and they cave in?
How big is the air chamber under the choc bars? 80mm? Surely that's not enough for drying? Cooling maybe.

So you put the sub base in, then a 6 inch pipe through the sub base to outside which is where the fan will be connected.
Inside you have a 90 degree bend coming up into where the channel is. Formwork above this (where the choc bars will fit)
One layer of mesh under the formwork holding it all together, a second between the formwork. Pour your 200 mm of concrete, power float up to the formwork. Next day remove form work lay in choc bars that fill the channel width wise and sit 1mm below finished floor level.

Ok I see now. What is the sub base? Concrete or hardcore?
