New Buildings on Agricultural Land

I want to put a new building one of our fields, the sheds we currently use for the farm are rented, and we need to eventually move.

It would initially be used would be for storage, workshop, butchery and on farm poultry abattoir (a converted shipping container).
The future goals would be to set up a welfare building/classroom for school visits, along with a farm shop.

Electricity and water connections are due to be fitted soon and we will need to dig out, hard core and concrete, once exact dimensions are decided

Are shipping containers worth at considering? Maybe placed 7-9 ft apart, with purlins and roof panels erected in-between to create additional cover.
It sounds like transport costs of containers could well wipe out any cost savings over a steel frame shed.

If it has to be a building, what would be the best design, are used frames worth looking into?

What planning permission would need applying for?

Any other questions need asking?

Thank you

If you can afford it, do it properly, with a decent steel portal frame shed, clad to suit, then fit it out internally to your requirements. You can easily erect a cheap building inside the shed for your future usage as often seen in fsactories or warehouses.

The big cost will be ground work like concrete and services.

If you have over 5Ha then you can seek Prior Approval and it is a simplified version of planning but there are restrictions. Otherwise you would need planning permission.
