Exactly right about architects, on our stable conversion the builder and I had many conversations along the lines of ‘how does he think we are going to do this bit, no thought as to the how at all’!
Luckily he had worked on lots of old properties so was pretty ingenious with solutions.

If I was speedy I’d be making sure the plumber was a young man as I would want him around for a while in case of low heat.
Speedy your a braver man than me taking that on, a bathroom refurb traumatises me, tap selection sends me off to start an argument with @gone up the hill.
Got it all up working today ,so this will help a lot in the coming weeks

The stone is going on now and looking nice , heating is all up and running good, There are 4 manifold like this in the house for the under floor heating with a thermostat in each room

What pressure are you running in your ground loops ?

When they top it up it’s just under 2 bar on the gauge, it’s been topped up once in three years after it came down to just under 1.5 but seems steady now. Our loops are actually higher than the HP anyhow therefore they tell me it would still operate down to nearly no pressure as long as it’s still full. Still experimenting with flow temps, can have it as low as 32degrees most of the time. The heat curve increases it if outside temps drop below 2degree now IIRC.

I’ve never pressureised my ground loop, just filled it and turn pump on perhaps I should? 12 years later it seems to work fine ?

do you mean ground source heat pump loop of under floor heating? Just re read it

central heating loop 1.2 bar

1.5 to 2 bar , but ours is lower than the house & we have 650 to 700 meters of pipe in the ground
Mine similar in that it runs down a field below my house might charge it up a bit with more
Pressure? Come to think of it the pressure relief valve on the ground loop is only 1.5 bar so it’s unlikely to even run near 1 bar?

Can you top it up? Ours is kind of sealed with two connectors that the installers can connect their pump to pump more thermal fluid mix into it. They connect the pump to one, return hose to other and inlet of pump to a drum with a mix in and return to top of drum intill it runs free of air then close the return tap to build up some pressure.

mine has a bit like you say, you can connect 2 pipes to fill the system, it also has a qauze within it to catch swarf, its like a fancy big valve with inlets.

it also has an expansion vessel near the gshp (highest point), you can unscrew the relief valve and top it up here plus handy to see level as its a clear expansion vessel. i can get a pic if you like

ha ha 'thermal fluid'

i was told it was 'bryne' amusing to see when it arrived it was just blue antifreze std car stuff infact as i read the drums...

i was wrong its 3 bar relief valve on my expansion vessel for the loop, i might put a bit more pressure in it, as i suspect mines just shy of a bar, it worked perfectly to now though perhaps it will be even better with more pressure!!

to be honest the supplying company was average when i got mine around 12 years ago and the support from the manufacture was good so me and my late father installed it, the supplying company inspected and passed it so i could get a grant, glad we did to be fair as i had to move it when i built an extension so i knew how it was all plumbed up.

We have and expansion vessel but not the top up bottle as the loops are going higher up the field than the house. The thermal fluid arrived here in 20ltr drums, it’s a sticky type of stuff as when you clean the filter in the isolation valve you mention it sticks to everything!! We’ve got a private supply for water and the installers weren’t keen so bought water with them in drums. We had to mix water and the ‘thermal fluid’ in a wheelie bin to create the ‘bryne’ before pumping it in. I just checked yesterday and brine in was 10degree and out was hovering at around 2degree. We had a new brine circulation pump under warranty this summer due to a low pressure fault. It was nice to see that they’re Grundfoss standard items with shutoff valve.

What’s your in and out temp? Do you adjust your flow temps at all?
