New defender 10/9/19

The good thing about this new Defender is its making the D5 look a better wiser choice.
The D5 is immediately available and has a 12% or more discount before tax at the moment which probably brings it back to below the Defender price with a better, or at least equivalent equipment list. D5 has more rear overhang, which probably doesn't bother anyone unless they want an extreme toy.

Defender will be coming through to customers beginning March to May 2020 and onwards. Dealers know nothing more yet. They are expecting a roadshow for those who have paid a deposit and seriously interested parties to see the vehicle at the dealership before the end of this year, but no schedule seems to be set yet. All that has happened is that it has been unveiled publicly as a teaser. They are not ready to deliver any yet and, if you notice the video reviews, they were all taken at the same place with the same two pre-production mules that were not allowed to be driven. Only the 90 interior was shown I do believe. I don't recall any of the journalists opening the door of the 110, which is odd because the 110 is going to be delivered first with the 90 apparently about twelve months away.

Normally at a big vehicle launch, there will have been magazines and vloggers that have had extended test drives before the launch so that they could make a big splash. But since they are launching way before vehicles are shipped to dealers, there's no real point to that. A bit of a damp squib really, which LR are doing their best to put a spin on or gloss over with their little forest peep show for so many journalists, one after the other. There was probably an orderly queue at Eastnor on the day. :ROFLMAO:

Anything can be a ‘workhorse’ if you wish it to be. There’s nothing a Discovery 5 can’t do that I can with the Ranger. It would mean hitching a flatbed trailer far more often than currently to the Ranger, but nevertheless the principle stands.

Is it targeted towards work horse enviroment though?
Called in to the local caravan dealership and the boss
sells more motorhomes costing £60k plus than caravans now.
He called it a goldrush from people with over generous pensions
which were bumped up by government incentives.
On the other hand he found the cheaper towing caravans were harder to
shift because the buyers were workers who's salaries
hadn't caught up in recent years and had concerns about job security.

Motorhomes seem to outsell caravans everywhere no. That's a plausible explanation you give.
It's ironic, peculiar even, that some of them tow a small car behind. Why not get a nice Range Rover and a caravan and forget towing a car behind? It has been puzzling me for some time.

Motorhomes are the only things the French ever buy. For about 8 months of the year the road are snarling with them. If you ever see a caravan over here it almost always either a Brit or a pikey.

I was looking at a new model Mits pickup today , they reckon the ford rangers have to travel st 10mph less than the speed limit is ths right ?
Only the wildtrack if I understand correctly.
All to do with weight limit to qualify as dual purpose vehicle. But nobody likes quoting like for like figures to easily compare.

If the design team were asked to make a new generation of the old Defender...

- Why did they choose to make a new version of the Nissan Cube ???

Yes and No, it has to travel at its vehicle class speed limit, which is the same as most full size Transit vans. The Ranger is a heavier built vehicle than the L200, which means it isn't restricted by axle numbers and is basically stronger and more stable. So yes the Ranger is restricted to 50mph on single carriageways and 60mph on dual carriageways, but otherwise normal speed limits apply, such as 70 on the motorway and posted limits elsewhere.
Towing has the same speed limits as anything else.

Silly rules, but there you go.

if you are serious about a l200 take for a long test drive I’ve recently bought a basic one and the ride is terrible not sure if the double cabs are better, it’s not as bad now I’ve put a few miles on it or I’m getting more used to it .
I had a double cab one a few years back and don’t remember the ride being this bad so it may be because its just a single cab .
After that it’s ok the driving position is a bit odd to start with but you soon get used to it.

Has anyone driving a double cab pickup - Ranger or other been ticketed for driving at 60 mph on an A road though ?

Was on a weekend break last week with a group of friends and one happened to mention that he’d never buy anything from Mitsubishi again. His engine failed due to the common head gasket issue and the replacement didn’t last more than a few weeks. Mitsubishi don’t apparently supply new engines but sent them away to a specialist to be repaired. He has been without a pickup for most of this year and doesn’t know when it will be back. All very odd.

The latest engines are meant to be improved but this issue has been going for several years. My vet had her engine fail just outside the [then] three year warranty but she wisely took the subsidised new vehicle option rather than have it repaired.
