The 6420S in my avitar died couple of years ago. Just went out like a light, mid field. Didn't move a muscle for 3 days. Put a complete reman pump on it.
Posted this before, but always make me laugh!
Wesley know how to repair it!

Here's the only pic I can find. Don't remember to much trouble with the timing but you can see that the drive hub looks just the same as yours. We just pinned the flywheel and the pump hub with suitable bolts and slipped it out. Don't quote me on this, but I think the fine tuning of the timing is done electronically inside the pump.

I can't tell you about a locking pin on the Perkins. Maybe it's just a timing mark on the front pulley for No1 TDC. On the JD, there's a hole in the flywheel housing.

Just lift the electronic head off and the speed sensor on the shaft as you lift it out.
Leave the mechanical part of the pump where it is.

Don't be going to all that trouble, we do the Transit's in place.
Need to get the memory wiper on the Ford's though (£20) for the immobilizer.

Pump was pretty easy to remove, (not like a car van etc) just lock in place 4 bolts front 4 on back plus injector pipes. The symptoms of diesels still getting through to injector but not at high enough pressure implies fault within the pump mechanically, and considering hours im happy to have it checked and replace and worn bits, smae with injectors its only £10 to get em tested.

Diesel bob is local ish and his vans this way tomoz so he collecting it with injectors, they all came out easy but no.1 left it to soak over night

Got some pics but phone went flat (n)

Almost all these Bosch pumps fail at between 4000 and 6000 hours, no matter what they are fitted to, as far as I can see.
When mine went, last year, the fault codes seemed to indicate a poor electrical connection but that was not it. My own pump was repaired and it was said, by Shorts the repairers, to be 'no fault found but replaced high pressure valve which was borderline'. It has worked perfectly since.

Yes, but you mentioned it was a mechanical fault, rather than electrical? Oh thinking about it, that high pressure valve might be soldered onto the electronic head.

Thats honest of repairer, how much was it for just that repair?

took about 25 mins to get 5 injectors out and 3 hrs for no.1 what a c*nt, had to pull it out with a nut on top with slightly thicker washers each time it moved and spacers down side...

look like my pump has come slightly lose in the past, has worn pump and the plate (and pump), can anyone recommend some liquid metal repair item, it not bad but would be better perfectly flat for new pump. (Actually found a service bulliton about the pumps coming loose from perkins and advice for repair)
