New driver insurance

Admiral, Elephant, Bell (all 3 same company), Aviva, Adrian Flux (good for exotic/modified), Greenlight.

Be realistic about the mileage. 5k miles/year obviously cheaper than 10k but I was doing over 10k/year when I started driving. Black boxes are ok but any silly driving and they increase the premium right up. Highest risk is with similar age friends after dark. Heavy braking etc is also detected by the box. As above, put her as main driver but add yourselves as that reduces the premium. Putting yourselves as main drivers and her as occasional is “fronting” which the insurers really don’t like.

I found the Ford KA was the cheapest to insure so kids were told that's what they get and I will pay the first years insurance. If they didn't want the KA then I would still give them the same value in money but they would have to make up the difference . ......none went for the KA ! ...

I found doing on line if you put the start date for new drivers for 3 weeks time that was lower.
Always keep clearing your browser history and cache cos the buggers quote accordingly !!!
Be careful if you put a black box in and you drive the car, no slamming brakes on just before the 30 mph !!! it goes against the young driver.

Eldest daughter also did advanced motorway test and got a full years no claim bonus a week after passing her test
It was just an afternoon’s driving with the instructor on a motorway .But check the insurance company honour the test to get the discount

Problem with putting kids in cars like the KA is when the invertible cash happens it’s your kids that are in the KA not the Volvo it collides with :dead:

Have a chat to Direct Line to see what they can offer. When my sister started driving with an old Polo, the NFU were extortionate! She did also have a 'Black Box' fitted which helped knock off some money I can't recall how much though

I used it more as a marker peg as to how much I would help them. As said none chose a KA and I don't blame them but it did make them value the cost of insurance by realising that to get a decent motor they would have to do something for themselves as well.....I don't believe in giving it to them all on a plate. Luckily most of them seemed to end up in the ditch or hedge rather than inbedded into the bull bar on a big 4 WD . The lad parked his car on the roof but no-one else involved so no 'claims' which helped. ........they all earning far more than me and driving better cars than me now !!!!

Does that mean an unexpected visit from Harvey Kietel?

Is it gold plated .....or have you been a bit naughty behind the wheel ?
We average a claim a year, varying from crashing into my own stuff in the yard to some knob that decides to crash into me but pretend it’s not his fault, then insurance back down and go 50/50

Evening, soon be getting to the point of choosing first car for my lad.
Would like a few pointers as to what would be suitable re insurance. He’d love a disco or double cab but that ain’t happening!!
Looked at a fiesta van but can’t find any of the online insurance lot who will quote for a van?
I know a few lads that have had freelanders as first car, is there some loopholes as must be expensive to insure?
Most likely end up with a fiesta or polo or something but would a focus/golf type size be any more to insure?
Sorry for all the questions but I can’t get an accurate quote online until he’s got his license and just wanted to start looking around for a car sooner rather than later.
