I'm not over convinced that if the small amount of greening etc in thus country was allowed to be ploughed up that many would do it anyway ....why do it when the rising costs are still rising when by doing nothing you will get a handsome payout ? ......or have I got it wrong ?
Me neither.
Most people have poorer or awkward bits on their farms where the EFA areas are. Often marginal ground at the best of time never mind with Fert at £1000.

Be better keeping EFA’s and throw the greens something in exchange for ditching the ludicrous tree planting, beaver releasing, wetland creation lunacy they want to impose on us.

Chuck in a fertiliser rebate so that we can make the most of the acres that are producing in 2023 and everyone’s happy:)

'2 Sisters employs more than 14,000 people in the UK and specialises in poultry and chilled foods.
Its chief executive told the BBC's Today programme that it had already been forced to pay 50% more for chicken it receives from farms.'

Any chook farmers able to confirm that?
More like 20 - 25% since early December not start of crisis, price is going up incrementally every week, wont be at the full 20% until May. further rises are mentioned if the situation gets worse.

Many broiler farmers are stopping production rather than lose money, the price is rising way slower than costs. Bird flu is affecting that decision too, why risk placing birds into a bird flu environment when they is very little margin to be had?

I believe Ireland is doing a similar U turn, and encouraging domestic food production.
Meanwhile ......
Indeed. Our man in Dublin, wants every farmer to divert some land into tillage. Nobody has told the clown that the land west of the Shannon is largely elevated, wet and boggy. Oh, and the farmers there know as much about tillage, as the minister himself knows about astrophysics….😱

Genuine Question might have been covered elsewhere.

Beet, with the rise in inputs and the cost of transport not covered by British sugar, has anyone broken their contract and panted spring wheat or alike for a better return?

The GDP is forecast to drop by 35% if the war extends longer. I think there will still be plenty crops in Ukraine. Getting it out may be tricky

Why does everybody still insist on comparing us too Europe? And what Europe are doing? Heard on the radio the other day something like “the uk government are the only country in Europe not fast tracking Ukrainian visas” were not in f**king Europe any more !!!! Build a bridge and get over it
We are in Europe, just no longer in the EU. However you feel about the EU, we are a European Country. And by the way, I did vote leave.

There was a farm advisory meeting last week and the only real and often repeated message was that whatever farmers do, they shouldn't reduce their inputs.

I can't think of any worse advice.

If we all carry on the same, let alone increase production, we will surely be all screwed with mediocre prices that won't cover costs.

I think it perhaps shows that some of our suppliers are rather shitting themselves.

What the situation like regarding Fertilisers in Ireland?
Even if own plonkers in London wanted us to increase production, there wouldn’t be much point in doing so this Spring, due the high costs of fertiliser, seed and sprays. And that is even if you could get hold of any of them!
If anything, production is highly likely to decrease here.

But given our wonderful government paid CF £millions to make some fertiliser, they will surely save the day with the warehouses of product that was produced for them during that time?.......
