Not really because if it wasn’t for these schemes the prices wouldn’t have been inflated by that much (before the steel price rise on top) and you could have bought the stuff straightforwardly without filling in forms and jumping through hoops. We bought alot of the items listed 4-5 years ago for way less than the price they are now with the help of a grant.
Not only that but one might argue whatever you buy will have depreciated 20% as soon as you get it home too

As I say Janet I don't want to seem ungrateful but very few of these things will make the average farm more profitable, unfortunately in fact in most cases it will be quite the opposite unless of course new machines mean you are able to sack the occasional workman saving a wage, I would love to know how the ministry see these grants improving the profitability of our UK farms?
How many also buy just for the discount and grant?
Often it's the machinery manufacturer and dealers do the best in the end!

We have had the prices independently validated, and also checked back on what we paid back last time, so we think they are broadly right (or as right as we can get them), but let me know when you've reviewed more closely, I'm keen to hear feedback.
During LEADER grant days I honestly saw at cereals signs on direct drills with 40/off..amd a EU logo.. The manufacturers will be rubbing their hands with joy. Obvs great for manufacturing, local supply chain etc.. But please defra do be aware of reality.

Difference between splash plate and trailing shoe is same as an apprentice hourly wage.
Why would I want to pay a full-time employees annual wage in capital outlay?

Probably had a EU grant as well to increase productivity. I know a few manufacturers that have!

We’re the welsh not getting 50-60% grants on direct drills and sward lifters when we couldn’t in England? 🤔

40% under the Small Business Grant scheme, which was matched by an English scheme a couple of months after. ;)

The Welsh scheme stated that the items couldn't be used for contracting, not that it was policeable. I didn't see that stipulation in the English scheme.

Never in my life have I come across such a bunch of ungrateful folk as farmers .If folk dont want to a claim on the scheme or find it doesn’t help increase their profitability then don’t apply for it it’s quite simple. The choice is yours. But to come on here and moan is pitiful. it makes Oliver and his “please can I have some more” look dignified.

Yes i agree with that statement....but
The but is when foreign imports start to arrive as they eventually will, we will be competing with our "with benefits" nearest neighbours holding our nice shiny new spades but with tears in our eyes!

Not sure Defra & reality belong in the same sentence!

Those links may help (y)

Been looking at a sward lifter that I've now discovered I can't get any money for cos I'm Welsh!
Cannot see the difference between the grass harrow and the comb weeder, if they are doing the same job would a "grass harrow" be eligible?

Asking the wrong person really but I personally couldn't see why it would matter. I've not actually read the comb harrow link myself but figured there must be a difference somewhere or another. Sure I read somewhere else once a comb harrow isn't as aggressive as a grass harrow ever could be.

Not sure you are living in the real world, all we want is a level playing field no more no less, before long China will tire of Aussie & NZ imports & they along with others will flood our markets, that is fine if we in the West are all supported or not supported in the same way but that is not happening, we in England are offered help to buy shiny new bits & bobs that do nothing to make us competitive, this government is simply transferring what funds that came to farmers all over Europe to keep everyone on an even keel to manufacturers & suppliers.
When UK farmers get squeezed those very same manufacturers & suppliers will be the first to feel the consequences, this dishonest government is simply buying urban votes to stay in power until after the next election!
