Hi Janet, great to see the funds open :) Are you able to advise what the applications windows will be for future rounds of the Farming Investment Fund?

Hey Janet,

New entrant farmer/shepherd here. I'm renting land and tbh never even thought or knew about subsidies or payments that the landlord may or may not get. Will this be an issue?

Also, I'm only working sheep. There was no sheep farmer options, just "farmer with livestock"

Now I'm not contracting currently, but was considering doing so in the future locally, doing bit piece work for local sheep farmers who either don't have time/skill needed/able to do each required task. Where would this leave me on the application?

Janet I see you’ve got a sward lifter for grassland but no corresponding low disturbance subsoiler (basically the same thing) for arable which are becoming increasingly popular as people are recognising soil health; I’ve been quoted 12-16000 for a 3m arable unit; will there be anything in further rounds to cover this or do you envisage the sward lifter money to be used for both arable and grassland types? Thanks
Just checking with the team for you

Looks much better as you can buy sensible basic priced stuff. As we need a new crush and didn't want to have to buy a crazy speced one we don't need then looks better as with the old scheme we would have bought the cheaper one and got nothing towards it anyway.

Hate to be a kill joy & as welcome as any help is this to me simply seems a way to put farmers further in debt with very little improvement to the bottom line.
I'm sure we would all love new equipment but it has to be remembered that 60% of the cost of all this is coming out of our pockets & the real benefactors of this are the endless suppliers who are no doubt breaking open the champagne & raising their prices just as we speak.
The majority of farmers have struggled to make profits with the way the single farm payment has been, we now will all have shiny new toys just as the payments disappear with no increase in profits but far bigger overdrafts, how this helps UK farmers is beyond me.

Afternoon all - we've launched the farming investment fund - info here: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/farming-investment-fund

Here's a blogpost explaining what's changed and how we've improved the scheme based on learning from previous schemes: https://defrafarming.blog.gov.uk/2021/11/16/the-farming-investment-fund-launches-today/

I'm very happy to answer any questions about it here, and we'll be doing a live Q&A about this in a couple of weeks' time too.
Looks good.

Be nice to see some items for egg production on there occasionally though. Manure drying systems, composting kit etc?

Also, optical counters: https://www.vencomaticgroup.com/product/egg-production/meggsius-count

Leak detectors: https://www.vencomaticgroup.com/product/egg-production/meggsius-detect

Or even a proper egg sorter: https://www.vencomaticgroup.com/product/egg-production/meggsius-select

Pretty please?!

P.S. Other equipment manufacturers are available...

I totally agree and all it does is devalue kit that is already on the farm....but with inflation cant see a very big take up ,they are quite clever and time it as the SFP payments arrive, if i wanted a new prattley i bet the waiting list is a mile long....cant get a new quad for six months...well there you are...enjoy your grants

I recon most items, given current current inflation, will equate to no more than 20% grant aid. This is after a quick flick through the livestock items. Unless you know something about the future trajectory of the steel market that we don't?
We have reviewed all the prices with the help of independent experts so we think they are reasonable, but we will be keeping an eye on prices and what we eventually pay out and will use that to inform future rounds
