I was looking at the prices of these new trucks, covered in crome trim and fancy alloys etc and it struck me how ridiculous its all getting. What's a pick up for but to work, I won't be parting with 30k one anytime soon.

I won’t be buying one. My favourite at the moment is a basic work hilux from 17/18 ish think they look nicer than the tart buses. Like the new isuzu but only the poverty spec with steel wheels they seem to have been changed without big hub caps on.

Everyone said the same about new Land rover defender.
They can't build them quick enough to keep up with demand.
I'm sitting tight for a few months until the world
goes into economic meltdown before buyinganything. 2022 is going to be interesting

Yes I see a fair few of them on the roads now. None towing a trailer or with ruck of sheepdogs hanging out the back of them mind. Next door neighbour priced one up, 95k or somthing daft, he could have had a range rover cheaper.Everyone said the same about new Land rover defender.

I really like it. Has an F150 look to it. Hoping they offer hybrid version when order books open end of next year as I'll be putting my name on one. Pickup that can do over 50mph would be a godsend to a grazier like me.

These have fuelled it further but these new motors were mental before hand. I know a lass who got a corsa - price 22k on 0% that was 2 years ago mental

This Ranger, the T6.3, is a significant step forward. It will have mild hybrid powertrains and a V6 diesel option, although I can't see why anyone would want that over the excellent performance of the existing twin-turbo 2.0 four. By far the biggest step forward is the availability of four wheel drive while driving on paved roads. A version of full-time four wheel drive but computer controlled apparently to be 2wd unless four are needed. I'm not hopeful that it will also work like that in low range though, which would be great for manoeuvring heavy trailers in yards and fields.

We will almost certainly not see this in the UK until late 2023 by the way. By which time we should expect a fully electric version. Surely?

And what of the VW version?
I’m undecided on the grill but like the idea of been able to have 4wd on road for towing etc.
As for the engine, I would order the V6, why? Because im a dinosaur that’s why….

The Lion engine, the one used for years by JLR but built by Ford, has apparently ceased production in the UK. I suspect that the one to be fitted to Ranger is to be built overseas, possibly Mexico. It is peculiar that they have bothered really, because it has just ceased to be an option on the US F150 truck. It was only offered for about three years and never sold well where petrol was cheap and the engine option was very expensive.
