New grain store

40 footers are a pain in the arse, they're proper wanky and flappy and you have to lift them on with a crane because it's impossible to jiggle them between rafters, and once you've got the purlin up you've the same number of bolts to do up. It isn't putting purlins that takes time it's doing the bolts

I'd rather do timber purlins every day of the week. Steel look better granted but I'd rather out timber up

Different strokes for different folks.... I prefer z's , nuts and bolts done quick with impact gun,all holes pre punched, lighter to handle.....

How tall did you apply for/ end up being allowed to build? Even though I'm on top of the hill there aren't many places that look out on to the farm so hopefully they won't be too arsey with me. Will 22ft eaves tip an artic?

Can't recall but we are hardly in people views either, we got the distinct impression planning office was just wanting shed lowered because she could

Ask for higher 24-28 Ft.
22ft on a shed of that width is not that high unless you are tipping in the centre. IMO.
22ft not tall enough for 16/18t grain trailers? Only running 14t trailers at the moment

My other thinking was if I apply for taller than I want with the expectation of getting knocked down in height by the planners then I could get the height I want, just thinking about the 30k pig mega farm now going ahead as a 15k pig site

Well if you get planning for 28' you can still build at 24' or 26' also the higher you go the more use any lean to if added at some point in time.

A 24' trailer on air & big wheels the tiping point is high then with high sides.
A 20ton Bailey at full tip is 27'9"" A 14ton is 23'. As a guide.

In my life trailers have never gotten smaller, just saying.

Has anyone ever checked what height a store is compared to what the plans are?
Fair enough if getting the planning has been contentious but if you had no objections then who is going to notice if it's a couple of feet higher???

Wash your mouth with soap. I can't believe you'd suggest farmers would put a bigger building up then they have planning for

A local guy built a grain store this summer and did it on 28 day notice, he bought a kit and got it erected by some lads ,it must be 3ft to high as its back in planning for a full application re the height and it has to be full planing as the building is already up ,about 6 years ago one had to be reduced in height about 3ft ,the ironic thing is we were erecting one about 200 yds away at the same height he started with

Would say 3ft more than whatever height you think you need is about right in most cases though. Give you that bit extra future proofing for things getting ever bigger.
Certainly wouldn't be wanting to put up a new store with just 20ft eaves these days. That's just 12t tipped trailer size till it's touching the stanchion/eaves haunch.
