Pondering ordering a new hilux 2.8 manual for delivery next year
Now they have been around a couple years, has anyone had any problems with them? or any common issues i should know about?
Also what MPG should i expect?
Please dont suggest rangers, dmax etc as im really not interested. If i dont get the lux it will be another 100 series instead. TIA

As I understand it the 2.8 was updated for MY21 to fix the dpf issues, not sure if it's completely cured the problem or not? Also do you know if thats 2.8s giving a lot of problems? The Mk6 3.0 didn't get a lot of the problems that the 2.5s did. Can't seem to find that Facebook page

I have a mk7 no problems, drowned it in waxoyl and buzzweld first, do it every year the chassis, but no modern pickup is like the old ones,

I saw my first 2021 hilux in the flesh earlier in the week at the excellent farm farmers/Ernest doe power day at bentwaters in suffolk.despite asking my local Toyota dealer SLM in Norwich and attleborough who I must admit are the worst people for service I’ve ever encountered,to look at one for a year now.anyway there was a grey one on show at the event and despite seeing lots of pictures I thought it looked hideous with the plastic front grill extending over the fog lights and over the wheel arches, front and rear.it really spoilt the appearance in my opinion.the inside is the same as my 2020 model apart from speakers on the newer model that looked like they been stuck on either end of dashboard on the top aswell.people say they pull very well but I’ve had no issues with mine and regularly pull 3.5 ton.

Have to agree I think it’s horrid with all the plastic bits.
I prefer the previous shape.

Done 8000 miles with mine and no issues so far, running mine on mt tyres and alot of short journeys and off road so around 25mpg. On long runs around 32-35mpg. Goes well and pulls well with a trailer on. Really happy with it so far a big step up ftom my 17 plate one. First auto i have had and the bigger engine suits it better. It does regen a lot but not doing many long journeys. Know of another one with over 10,000 miles on and averaging over 30mpg.

I ordered an auto yesterday with towbar and rollcover, was 31k, you will never regret buying a hilux.
You might! I would include any of current crop of pickups though. A fella had a trailer on his 17 plate Hilux invincible and fused the lights. He was miles from home and it was going dark. Couldn’t find the fuses so as was in the AA (I think it was AA he said) and Toyota garage down the road was shutting and had no interest in helping. Anyway many days later after he eventually got through to AA and gone through all the covid concerns they would send someone out. Some time later rescue van rocked up and announced he could not deal with trailers. He set too taking near side plastic door sill trim off then joining plastic kick panel trim and eventually got to the fuse box in cab by pulling glove box and surrounding trim. At this point he announced he didn’t have any of the mini blade fuses most vehicles use these days. Toyota didn’t seem to have any spares mounted in fuse box. So with persuasion he robbed a fuse off something not required to get home and chucked all plastic trim onto back seat. All the way home the Toyota flashed and beeped that he was going to die because a fuse had been pulled. Don’t know which fuse they actually robbed but next day local tyre/garage repairs outfit sorted it and put cab back together.

So why some seem to bury fuse box well out of the way making access a pig in the dark I dunno. I’ve not actually checked myself and there may be a simpler way of accessing it - by simply pulling glove box out? He thinks the lights fused having to reverse trailer away from his customer and turning trailer sharp in doing so maybe putting pressure on plug. I checked plug on trailer and socket and couldn’t find anything that might short. My livestock trailer used to fuse half of side lights and some of trailer lightd when turned sharp right. Checked wiring and never found a fault. It was simple to change fuse in box under bonnet. Did it a few times then never did it any more. Pretty much the same with the flat trailer and Hilux. It hasn’t done it again.

I thought about joining the que for a new Hilux earlier this year but local Toyota rep had zero interest in having a demo. I could if I wanted, have a look at one in the showroom. Snarkily I said why not draw me some pictures of one and put it in the post 🙄 I’m in the queue for a new d max sometime next year, mainly because of strong money offered by webuyanyvan. That said I’ll have to see what finances are like come the time. Can’t fault my current d max really though in last year of warranty.

I'm not sure I would choose a particular pickup because of a fuse. Also I'm not interested in experimenting a 1.9 litre engine for 200,000 miles of towing, 2.8 is highly stressed enough already if the vehicle is working hard most of its life. I have to say I agree about the dealer's though, i am shocked at how little interest any of them have in selling anything

Had a similar issue with a hilux a few years back.brand new vehicle and used it to tow digger to work.went to start it to come home and battery was flat.rang dealer 6 miles away but they did not want to know and said call AA.got a jump start from work mate and got home and called AA.they came out after couple of hours and said battery was dead which I knew.next morning I was at home and called main dealer again and told em it needed a new battery and AA had confirmed this.they said they would need to check it at their premises and to get AA out again to start it and then drive 6 miles to dealer so they could check it.at this point I was getting well pee'd of with their attitude and told em if no one was out within an hour with a new battery I’d go to Does in wymondham in a tractor and get a battery and bill them for it.15 mins later a young lad appeared with a battery and we got the issue sorted.why the hell main dealers can’t be more helpful I’ll never know.the main dealer was Dingles at the time and service then was shite but it’s got worse now SLM have their name over the door.i love toyotas but the dealers are crap and the importers don’t care less.

all this is making me think i should stick with only running vehicles that are out of warranty  what caused it to go flat in the first place?
