Although I live 20 miles away from this because of my contract spraying I often work close to what is dumbed as Europe's largest building site. The big yellow crane was built last year and took 5 months and is the biggest in the world of that type. It is going to stay here 4/5 years but unbelievably only do 6 lifts ! Rated at 4000 tons I think .There are 25 other tower cranes plus lots of mobiles . Will try and get some more pics over next few weeks.

Ps, sorry pictures are not great ! First time with this phone and need to get closer . In second picture on right is parked around 20 slews , rock crushers and around 30 ADT s on top of a mound of dirt, they have not moved since lock down but site is open and work going on still but with 50% less people .
Top picture , far left is concrete batching plant, been working 24 hrs/day last 2 years !! To left again [but not in picture] is a jetty they have built into Bristol channel for deliveries of certain stuff .

I was speaking with someone involved in the construction industry who is involved with civil works. Apparently workers on the site are all taken in on buses. You can't drive into it. And the buses sit on sit all day ready to take the entire workforce away in case there is a terror threat or an incidence on the powerstation next door.

Apparently the government have already given the construction world the nod for Sizewell C and there will be a Hinkley D after that...

Yes fleets of buses and all park and ride . They have around 6 car parks in surrounding 10 miles in different directions and buses are running 24 hrs / day but obviously more on during day light hours.
You can see Hinkley A [single building] and Hinkley B [double building] in my pictures. Hinkley A stopped producing probably 15 years ago [ has been or is being decommissioned], and Hinkley B is still producing but at a lower output from peak as it was meant to have stopped by now but had an extension and I think its got around 5 years left[unless they extend permission again]. I think Hinkley C is 8 years away now [I think] but the corvid job has meant the site is only running at half speed so no doubt it will delay the opening date [ and cost an extra billion or so more !!!!]

Is this the 1 we had to get the chinese to build? Couldnt do it ourselves?

It's a good story, but not actually correct. Last I checked, the three largest contract awards for the Hinckley C project (all >£1bn) were awarded to a Laing O’Rourke consortium, Framatome and GE. None of those is Chinese. (The next biggest four are to Cavendish aka Babcock, Kier and Balfour Beatty x2).

I would not put a bet on it. Even Hinkley C has a get out clause if deadlines are not met and if EDF previous experience with the similar Finnish and French reactor is anything to go by its doubtful this will ever be finnished.

Renewables were being mentioned again from the government pre Covid 19 with very positive tones again so a change in policy wouldn’t have been a surprise but money will be to tight now to persue These new projects

See that funny shape field , inch to the left of the "plus" sign in Sids photo, well its being drilled tomorrow and I will be spraying it after so will get some closer pictures .
That yellow crane is about where you can see a white footprint above a square shape to right of a building ie approx center of top site IYSMIM . Thats an early photo , maybe 18-24 months ago .
PS don t know how people "write " on photos on posts ???

Few more as I was close . Over 30 tower cranes plus mobiles. I have been told that inside that dome building ( by the yellow crane)they are building something which they need 2/3 of them and that big yellow crane lifts the roof off that building and lifts out the " thing" and puts roof back on so they can build the next one !! It's here for 4 years and will only do 6/8 actual lifts.

That picture of basically dirt was flat 6 years ago and is around 70 ACS in size. All that soil was dug out and moved from actual site of reactor and a BIG hole dug. They were moving major dirt for 3 and half years with 2x 800 tonne quarry slews and fleet of 150 tonne quarry trucks to give you an idea.
