If you get stuck for parts i am in essex know a bloke who is going to break 2 these balers. these break because slip clutch either to tight or rusted . before using at start of season slacken off springs [take note of length] and engage tractor pto and make clutch slip a few times and re-tighten, that shaft is part of the triangle plate which hold's it to flywheel...

Its the central shaft that is broken. Very expensive from NH If you can even find one!
I have drilled one out centrally and threaded it to fit a bold in the centre of it. Has worked so far.
It shouldn't actually be taking any power through it. It's only there to hold the overrun and slip clutch centrally

Or it has been known to weld it all up, including the overrun clutch. But only do this with a tractor that can allow the PTO to free-wheel rather than be braked.

Thank you ever so much @davidroberts30 for that link to Woodfield.
I had exactly the same problem with my NH 940 baler a year ago as @glasshouse has with his 276.
My NH dealer told me that as they haven’t made this baler for 20ish years it wasn’t going to be easy to get and IIRC that it would be over £600 and have to come from France.

I thought bugger that and fixed it myself by drilling out a hole though the centre of the pilot shaft and the centre of the back of the triangular bit that bolts onto the flywheel. Then tapped it and bolted two together. It worked but there is a slight wobble and I’m worried that it might not last very long.
It had been worrying me all winter and I even wondered about replacing the whole baler.

Having seen your link, I’ve just rung Woodfield, spoken to a chap called Ben and ordered it for £225 Plus VAT and £12 delivery. It’ll be here tomorrow.

Woodfield’s supply bits for all sorts of balers and look like a very handy firm to know.

Good to hear?
I've used them a couple of times for my 276
Half the price of NH parts
