New Holland Baler

I have just been offered a New Holland 370 Baler, any thoughts gratefully appreciated.
anyone know which numbers correspond to years of manufacture?

I think ours was a 370 before we bought the present yellow 945 in 1983. Ours would have been 1979 or so at a guess.
Add: I must say I preferred our red ones to the 945 although I think the 945 was a Friday afternoon job. We all used hayliners round here in the '70s and they were good balers once set up.

we have a good one , no trouble at all if set up properly to start , sharpen knives start of season , and ,check chains and bearings , and dogs in chamber are working , and dont wash it (use an air line ) end of season . packs a good tight, straight bale . very few breakages .

From childhood memories.... They had a faster 92 stroke per minute than the predecessor which my father had. They could pack much more into a bale, and do it faster.

However the cam track finger arrangement that fed the ram from the pickup real hated any lumps.

I was already jealous of the neighbour that had a welger which fed across with a worm instead. It was way more forgiving of a bad row.

On the new Holland check the m8 flywheel shear bolt hasn't been bored out to m10. Check the feeder finger cam tracks for wear. Look at the ram side knife condition, and walk away if it's jagged. It's been balling things more solid than grass. I can't remember what to look for with the knotters, but remember they always seemed a bugger to sort when they gave bother. That might have been my father's lack of mechanical ability though!

I think the 370 had a narrower pick up than the 376 we had before the 575. The 376 was a good baler that could easily knock out 300 bales an hour without pushing it.
I believe that they made a better shaped bale than the later yellow 940 type machines of the 1980's.
Best to check on some of the spares availability for these 300 type balers as they are close to forty years old now!
