just out of idle curiosity, why are some new Holland machines red and some yellow?
Balers are particularly noticeable but it doesn’t seem to be age related.

I thought it was age related although a Ford fan will probably correct me. Red for Sperry New Holland, then yellow for Ford New Holland and then back to red under Fiat ownership.
Not sure about age. Early balers were red then there were the yellow ones but a neighbour has a late 90’s red baler.
Found balers also seem to fluctuate even more between red and yellow. Newest ones seemingly available in both

Forgot that they're back to yellow now, maybe like that since the formation of CNH? Late 90s red conventional baler will be a 570 or 575? Earlier 900 series were yellow and the 300 series before that were red. Not much in the way of New Holland machinery around here now, their double chops were popular at a time.

Proper New Holland was red with yellow wheels and other bits, Clayson was always just yellow, but then got white wheels to match the tractors. I think all harvesting stuff went yellow when it became CNH but there were variations maybe where is was made as USA (home of New Holland) still seems red?

I bought this NOS badge the other day.
From the local Case dealer that used to be a Massey dealer.

It's from a Ford 600 apparently...

Sperry New Holland introduced yellow balers , foragers etc before Ford took over, maybe to create a standard look in the product line but this was only in Europe, in the US balers and all hay machinery stayed red
A couple of years after Ford took over the 500 series square balers and 835 /865 round balers were introduced and production was moved to the US so it was probably more efficient to just have 1 colour scheme
As far as I know the yellow colour scheme was reintroduced to differentiate from the very similar Case IH balers

I think our yellow 945 baler dates from 1983 . It replaced the red and yellow 1979 hayliner.
We used to have a fair collection of NH stuff back then. A 253 tedder rake, a two drum mower and a rotospreader come to mind, but that was all red and yellow.
